Renault electrified a 60-year-old legend From old garages to the age of electric cars

Classic cars are not meant to remain only in museums and collections. The new wave of Restomod shows that it is possible to keep the look and feel of an old car while replacing its heart with today's technology. One of the latest examples is the Renault 8 Gordini Concept.

The resurrection of classic cars with the return of automotive legends; Classics never get old!

Classic cars are not meant to remain only in museums and collections. The new wave of Restomod shows that it is possible to keep the look and feel of an old car while replacing its heart with today's technology. One of the latest examples is the Renault 8 Gordini Concept.

Ambassador Arjan-Yekta Farahani: For many car enthusiasts, the value of an old car is not limited to its engine and technical specifications; The shape of the body, the sound of the engine, the design of the cabin and even the memory that the car carries are part of its identity. Now the auto industry is experimenting with a different way to keep this legacy alive: combining the look and character of classic cars with modern technology, especially electric powertrains.

In the meantime, Renault has shown a new example of this approach by bringing back the Renault 8 Gordini name in the form of an electric concept.

Renault 8 Gordini first became one of the well-known cars in the French motorsport world in the 1960s. Now, Renault has revived the name, but not with a detailed reconstruction of the old car.

Renault 8 Gordini Concept is an all-electric two-seater coupe inspired by the design language of racing cars and equipped with a 270-horsepower electric motor. The body of the car is also designed low and wide, and with a low distance from the ground, it looks like modern rally cars.

Gasoline engine vs electric engine

The word Restomod is made from the combination of Restoration and Modification; That is, the car will keep its classic mood first, but its various parts will be redesigned with today's technologies and materials.

In this way, the gasoline engine may be replaced with an electric engine, the brakes and suspension system may be upgraded, and new safety and electronic equipment may be added to the car; While the original design remains recognizable.

Why are old cars electrified?

According to the Financial Times, the electrification of classic cars is not only about increasing power. Removing the combustion engine and using an electric drive can fundamentally change the technical structure of the car and enable the use of modern technologies.

At the same time, enthusiasts can preserve the historical appearance and character of the car. This combination has caused specialized companies in different countries to convert classic cars into electric cars. In a new report, the Financial Times also discussed the growth of companies that convert classic cars into all-electric models.

Over the past few years, Renault has undertaken several projects to redefine its historical heritage. The R17 electric restomod x Ora Ïto was one of them, and now the Renault 8 Gordini Concept continues the same path.

However, the new Gordini is a concept and design exercise for now, and Renault has stated that its aim is to recreate a historical icon for the new era, not introduce a mass-produced product.

Perhaps the most fascinating part of Restomod's story is this: technology doesn't necessarily mean erasing the past. Automakers and specialty companies can take designs that were popular decades ago and bring them into a new era with electric powertrains, new materials, and today's technologies.
