70/100 – IGN | Reviewer: Jim Vojvoda
The Beast is a fun and exciting work that draws inspiration from classic action movies with ambitious ideas and engaging stories.
70/100 – The New York Times Critic: Glen Kelly
This role gives Jackson a lot of opportunity to showcase his acting skills. As always, he balances the passionate moments with the quieter scenes with exemplary skill. Of course, despite all the bullets and missiles that are fired from a close distance, maybe few people notice these subtleties. Rarely has a president been portrayed so aggressively and violently in a movie.
50/100 – The Hollywood Reporter | Critic: Frank Shek
Harlin puts to good use the skills he has acquired over the years in making action scenes; The scenes that actually make up the bulk of the movie. However, his abilities are somewhat limited and can't compensate for the film's eloquence. As you might guess, the president talks too much with Jackson playing. In addition, the process of events eventually becomes very similar to a video game.
This movie is nothing more than a bloody cartoon. The reunion of Jackson and Harlin may sound exciting to long-time fans of the action genre, but even they will have a hard time finding a reason to be excited about this film.
