Danny Trejo, who you probably know from his roles in more than 200 films, often appearing as tough guys and criminals, and occasionally in family films like Spy Kids and last year's Zootopia 2, has recently been criticized for his role in Pawn Shop, an upcoming film by the conservative American firm The Daily Shapiro. The film, which basically looks like a pro-ICE ad, has naturally drawn Trejo a lot of criticism for his involvement, since the actor is not only of Mexican descent, but also a vocal Democrat. Last week, Trejo released a statement on his Instagram account, saying fans should make no mistake, he is a proud Mexican who has always been and will always be a supporter of [his] community. so what happened According to Trejo's son Gilbert, the actor was misled about the project and learned of Shapiro's involvement only after the contract was signed.

In his private Instagram story (thanks to Deadline), Gilbert Trejo claims that his agent told his father that Pawn Shop is "a complicated story about a complicated time, where everyone looks bad except you, the hard-working Mexican shopkeeper who just wants peace." Gilbert goes on to claim that Shapiro's involvement wasn't clear to Trejo and his family until "about two weeks after filming," and that the actor had never heard of the expert or his hate speech. The actor's son says that because of his contract, Trejo cannot speak out against Shapiro and the film or walk away from it without facing legal consequences.

"It's messed up," he wrote. He is handcuffed to this stupid project and a group of people immediately turn their backs on him without knowing the facts. Ben Shapiro forced Mexicans to give up one of their heroes, put his name at the top of Google searches, and made us look like angry, nuanced idiots. He will win."

Trejo has had a storied film and television career, but has also appeared in several games, including Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. He even plays himself in several games such as Call of Duty: Black Ops and Far Cry 6.
