DraftKings CEO credits FBI and NBA for acting quickly in betting scandal

DraftKings CEO Jason Robbins joins Varney & Co. To discuss the impact of bettors winning on profits, the response to the NBA betting scandal and why legal sportsbooks are still going strong.

The NBA has been plagued by sports betting scandals for the past year. Sports betting is now integrated into almost every broadcast. From weekly talk shows to pre-game coverage, it's ingrained in the game. The NBA now offers multiple bets at some of the most prominent sportsbooks. Apparently, having players who were said to help bettors cash out big bucks wasn't good for business.

According to ESPN, the league is banning several types of bets this season, including joint bets on a player involving multiple statistical underdogs — the same bets at the center of recent gambling scandals involving Jontay Porter and Terry Rozier.

If you haven't seen the videos of Terry Rozier allegedly making foul plays, taking wild shots, and turning the ball over in ridiculous ways, check it out here.

And because angry gamblers apparently need to be reminded that losing a nuisance game isn't a license to harass athletes, the NBA is offering additional protections against online threats and abuse.

The league has partnered with a third-party service to help players delete harassing social media messages and set up a hotline to report threats.

The message is clear: bet whatever you want on basketball. Just don't expect the NBA to make it easy to turn questionable play into million-dollar salaries.
