ready for a possible war with Türkiye; The purchase of American and British long-range missiles by Greece

The Hebrew-language newspaper "Maariu" reported that Greece is considering the purchase of a set of advanced American and British missiles; Weapons that can strengthen the offensive power of Athens and affect the military balance of this country with Turkey in the Aegean Sea and the eastern Mediterranean Sea.

According to Ambassador Arjan, Maariu reported, quoting from the Greek base "Directos": Greece's weapons program is focused on three axes: British missiles for air and electronic warfare, advanced American missiles for air-to-air combat and long-range cruise missiles with the ability to target the depth of the enemy's soil.

In this regard, on October 8th, the officials of the Greek Air Force Command met with the representatives of the British company "MBDA UK" to check the capabilities of the "SPEAR 3" attack missiles and the "SPEAR EW" electronic warfare missile. The Greek Ministry of Defense confirmed the holding of these negotiations on October 14.

"SPEAR 3" missile has a range of more than 140 km and is designed to target moving targets and air defense systems. The electronic warfare version of this missile can disrupt the enemy's defense systems by disrupting its radars. According to this report, the delivery of these missiles is scheduled to begin in 2027.

Also, the reports of the specialized Greek defense media indicate that Athens has received preliminary information about the price and availability of two American missiles "AIM-260 JATM" and "AIM-120D-3". The AIM-260 missile is expected to have a longer range than current missiles, although its exact specifications are classified.

The third system under investigation by Greece is the "AGM-158B JASSM-ER" stealth cruise missile with a range of more than 926 km, which allows attacking distant targets without the carrier aircraft getting too close to the areas covered by the enemy's defenses.

According to this report, Greece plans to integrate these weapons with F-35 fighters, upgraded F-16 Viper-type fighters and Rafale fighters equipped with Meteor missiles.

This program is followed in a situation where Türkiye and Greece are still in military competition and Ankara is also developing its defense systems and planes. However, the implementation of Athens' weapons program is dependent on obtaining the necessary permits, securing financing, and finalizing purchase and delivery agreements.
