German chancellor: Russia will negotiate seriously only under pressure / We stick to our sanctions against Russia.
German Chancellor Friedrich Mertes said in a press conference in Berlin on Monday evening: Germany and Europe will not accept this action and will continue to stand by Ukraine.
While criticizing the agreement to supply Russian diesel to America, the German chancellor rejected any European support for an agreement that would reduce the pressure on Moscow.
According to Ambassador Arjan, German Chancellor Friedrich Mertes said in a news conference in Berlin on Monday evening: Germany and Europe will not accept this action and will continue to stand by Ukraine.
According to the report of Ambassador Arjan, the German chancellor further emphasized: We pay attention to the agreement between the United States and Russia regarding the export of diesel. For Germany and Europe, such a decision is impossible. Russia will only negotiate seriously under pressure, which is why we are sticking to our sanctions against Russia.
Ignoring Ukraine's attacks on Russian infrastructure, which the country's officials consider "terrorist attacks", Mertes condemned Russia's military operations and claimed that Western countries should impose stronger sanctions after Moscow targeted "civilian energy infrastructure in Ukraine."
He added: Russia does not respond positively to recent proposals and will come to the negotiating table only if it feels real pressure. You can see this in the energy truce proposal presented by US President Donald Trump.
Mertes noted: Europeans are in contact with the Trump administration about the latest developments and the right strategy towards Russia. We continue to seek a common path to help end this war. Of course, there are different views on some issues.
The German chancellor once again emphasized that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky can count on Germany and Europe and added that the European leaders will discuss the latest developments at their upcoming meeting in Brussels.
Earlier this week, Donald Trump announced Russia's agreement to supply diesel to world markets in order to reduce fuel prices. At the same time, Trump lifted sanctions on Russian fuel designed to deprive Moscow of war revenues; An agreement that was criticized by American lawmakers and Volodymyr Zelensky.
Earlier, Donald Trump published a short article on the Truth Social social network and claimed that a ceasefire has been established in the field of energy between Russia and Ukraine. Reacting to this news, Volodymyr Zelenskiy told Barak Ravid, a reporter of the Axios news site: "The announcement of the ceasefire was new news to me, but if the Russians agree to the energy ceasefire, Ukraine will also agree."
Meanwhile, Igor Ananskikh, the Deputy Chairman of the Energy Committee of the Russian State Duma, while expressing his ignorance about the US President's claim about the ceasefire between Moscow and Kiev in the field of energy, said that this claim was made with the aim of curbing the global oil price.
