Continuing the analog approach of the Instax Square SQ6 that launched in 2018 and successors like the Square SQ1 and SQ40, the new Fujifilm Instax Square 2 forgoes digital functionality while offering the ability to customize the look and feel of snapshots. A new filter mode switch rotates one of two color filters on the front of the lens, producing "crisp, blue-tinged" results with a warm, "subtle gold tone" and "cool" setting.
The Instax Square 2 is expected to be available later this month for $119.95 (the same price as the 2020 SQ1) in Blue, Brick Red, and Misty White. Along with the new camera, Fujifilm is also introducing a new type of instant film it calls Soft Haze, which produces photos with reduced color saturation and contrast, plus bright highlights and warm, diffused shadows. Each movie pack sells for $18.99 for 10 shows.

The Square 2 has the same design and layout as the SQ1, but with a "new body design" that looks like Fujifilm has aggressively sanded over its predecessor to round off all the sharp edges. There is an optical viewfinder on the back and a small mirror on the front for selfie framing. A rotating ring on the lens can be used to switch between three shooting modes including close-up, standard and landscape with focus ranges from close to 0.3m to infinity. The Instax Square 2 also features auto exposure and auto xenon flash adjustment.
