Nintendo apparently wasn't happy with Elon Musk's performance as Wario in an episode of Saturday Night Live in 2021.

In 2021, Elon Musk played the role of Wario in one of the Saturday Night Live comedy items. This villain from the world of Nintendo appeared in court and was accused of murdering Mario, the popular video game plumber. This show brought a lot of negative reactions in cyberspace and apparently Nintendo officials did not welcome it either.

Kate Ellis and Krista Young, two former Nintendo PR executives, revealed on a recent episode of their YouTube show that the satire wasn't a big hit with Nintendo at the time. The two addressed this issue after airing a new comedy item on Saturday Night Live; An item where Link, the main character of The Legend of Zelda, was arguing with Jason Duval from GTA 6 about which one would have a better game. The show mainly mocked The Legend of Zelda series and tried to make GTA 6 look like a more attractive game, however, Ellis and Young believe that this new rendition was probably better received than Elon Musk's show.

Ellis and Yang recalled that they were at Nintendo when the satire aired, and emphasized that the show was not popular with company officials. Ellis also noted that the timing of this performance was odd, as there were no new Wario games released at the time, nor were there any new products centered around the character. He further explained that the content of this show had reached an uncomfortable range even for Nintendo; A topic that probably refers to its inappropriate and adult jokes.

In this episode, the SNL cast made jokes about Mario's drug use and Luigi's relationship with Princess Peach. All in all, this show had some strange scenes that can be described as an unusual experience, to say the least. It is natural that Nintendo is not very satisfied with showing its family and popular characters in the form of unconventional people. The Saturday Night Live program has previously made fun of Nintendo's works on several other occasions. One example was an item centered around a dark and violent version of Mario Kart, inspired by HBO's adaptation of The Last of Us.
