The General Director of Sports and Youth of West Azarbaijan province, referring to the pursuit of obtaining a permit for the construction of a 12,000-person hall in Urmia, said: West Azarbaijan hosted 15 international events in two years, and recorded the best performance in the history of the province's sports in the Nagoya Asian Games.
According to the report of Arjan's ambassador from West Azerbaijan, Sajjad Bairami, in the press conference of the week of physical education and sports among journalists, pointed out the upward trend of sports in West Azerbaijan in the past two years and added: the sports successes of the province, in addition to bringing pride to the country, have played a role in increasing social vitality, creating hope and strengthening the self-confidence of young people.
The Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan announced the slogan of this year's physical training and sports week as "Sports, the sacrifice of Iran" and referring to the holding of 1,388 programs at the province level during the week, he said: out of the total number of scheduled programs, 245 are championship sports, 175 are general sports, 273 are women's programs, 21 are rural sports, 105 are cultural programs, and 347 are programs of other organizations. Executive related to sports is dedicated.
He also informed about the prediction of live broadcast of two sports programs on Se-Sima channel in Urmia and Selmas and said: In addition to introducing the sports capacities of the province, efforts have been made to provide more people's participation and social vitality through the programs of the physical training week.
Referring to this week's construction plans, Birami said: 8 sports projects with a total area of more than 16,500 square meters will be put into operation in Urmia, Mahabad, Chaharborj, Dasht and Piranshahr cities, of which there are 7 outdoor sports spaces and one indoor sports space, which will meet part of the sports needs of the province.
Winning 286 World and Asian medals in the last two years
Describing the performance of the championship sports of the province, Bairami said: In the last two years, West Azerbaijan athletes have won 286 medals in the world and Asian competitions, and 590 athletes of the province have been invited to camps and national team composition, of which 228 people have become permanent members of the national teams.
He added: In the same period, athletes of the province have won 1,893 medals in national championships, including 747 gold medals, 543 silver medals, and 603 bronze medals.
The Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan continued: In the division of international medals, the athletes of the province have won 36 world medals, 121 Asian medals and 129 international medals.
Nagoya, the most successful period of participation of the province's athletes in the Asian Games
The Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan considered the performance of the province's athletes in the Asian Games in Nagoya as one of the most important recent achievements of the province's sports and said: "In this period of the games, the athletes of West Azerbaijan had a significant contribution in winning medals for the convoy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and it was one of the most successful periods of participation of the province's sports in the history of the Asian Games."
He added: Athletes of the province won medals in seven out of nine expedition disciplines, and the success rate of expedition disciplines was also about 78 percent. Also, the productivity rate of medal winning athletes of the province, based on the statistics presented in this meeting, was announced to be about 93%.
Referring to the share of the province's athletes in the country's medal basket, Birami said: West Azerbaijan, despite having more limited resources compared to some provinces, was able to take a share of nearly 16% of the medals of Iran's convoy by relying on the talents of the youth and specialized planning.
Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan, referring to the future plans of the province's championship sports, said: A stronger presence in the Doha Asian Games and the Los Angeles Olympic Games is one of the future goals, and it is planned to increase the number of sports in the province from 9 to 14 in the upcoming Asian Games.
Hosting 15 international events with the participation of athletes from 66 countries
Referring to the position of West Azerbaijan in hosting sports competitions, Birami said: the province has been among the leading provinces of the country in hosting international events for 4 consecutive years, and in the last two years, 15 international events with the participation of representatives from 66 countries have been held in the province.
He added: During these events, about 2,700 athletes and members of foreign staffs entered the province, and this matter, in addition to the development of championship sports, has highlighted the capacities of West Azerbaijan in the field of tourism, urban economy and the introduction of the capabilities of the province.
The Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan continued: During this period, 668 provincial competitions and 176 national championship events were held in the province, and more than 70 thousand athletes from different provinces of the country traveled to West Azerbaijan to participate in the competitions.
Emphasizing the importance of continuing this trend, he said: hosting sports events, in addition to improving the technical level of athletes, is a good opportunity to develop sports tourism, strengthen infrastructure and establish more effective communication with the country's sports federations.
Opening of 74 sports projects in the last two years
Describing the measures taken in the field of sports infrastructure, Birami said: In the last two years, 74 sports projects have been put into operation in the province, which includes 17 indoor sports halls and 57 outdoor sports spaces.
He added: With the use of these projects, more than 73 thousand square meters have been added to the area of sports spaces in the province, and about 320 billion Tomans have been spent for their implementation.
Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan, referring to the role of provincial support in the advancement of construction projects, said: To provide the necessary resources, various capacities have been used, including mineral credits, oil resources, social responsibilities, tax resources and other legal capacities.
He also announced the follow-up of the national sports projects of the province and said that the completion and assignment of major sports projects, including Khoi and Miandoab stadiums, Selmas stadium and the tartan track of Takhti Stadium in Urmia, are on the agenda.
Referring to the status of active projects in the province, Birami added: Currently, 239 sports projects are active in West Azerbaijan, which include 72 indoor sports spaces, 137 outdoor sports spaces, 75 urban projects, 164 rural projects, and 30 projects that are being repaired and equipped. The area of these projects is about 197 thousand square meters and their credit estimate is more than 2.5 hemats.
Pursuing the construction of a hall for 12,000 people in Urmia
In response to a question about the construction process of the 12,000-person hall in Urmia, the Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan stated: The studies of Article 23 of this project have been carried out for about 20 months, and the study booklet has been sent to the Program and Budget Organization of the country after going through the relevant steps.
He added: This matter is continuously followed up by the General Directorate of Sports and Youth of the province and the Governor of West Azerbaijan, and the project is in the follow-up stages to obtain the final permit.
Bairami emphasized: The plan to build a 12,000-person hall in Urmia is still in the process of administrative and legal follow-up, and we hope that by completing the necessary steps and providing the necessary resources, the ground for the advancement of this important sports project will be provided.
Attracting 4 investment efforts of the private sector in sports programs
Referring to the role of the private sector in the development of sports in the province, Birami said: One of the important axes of the programs of the General Administration is to use the capacity of investors and facilitate the participation of the private sector in the construction and operation of sports spaces.
He added: Currently, 31 sports projects are being built by the private sector in the province, and in order to attract new investment, 138 sports projects with an estimate of about four projects are planned for the participation of investors.
Referring to the development of sports clubs, the Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan stated: The number of active sports clubs in the province has reached 1,356 clubs and the investment made in this sector is estimated to be more than 5 million. This field has created about 13 thousand job opportunities and the area of related spaces reaches about 450 thousand square meters.
Referring to the facilitation of the process of issuing licenses for clubs, he said: the duration of issuing licenses, which in the past in some cases reached several months, has been reduced to about five days by modifying the processes, and in some cases related to the licenses of clubs without land, the process of issuing licenses is done in a much shorter period of time.
Emphasizing the role of the media in introducing heroes
In another part of his speech, Bairami emphasized the need for the media to pay attention to the achievements of the province's athletes and said: Sports champions do not belong to a special organization or group, but are considered the social capital of the people and a symbol of the capabilities of West Azerbaijan.
He added: introducing heroes who reach the podium despite difficulties and limitations can inspire the young generation and create the necessary motivation to move towards sports and championships.
The Director General of Sports and Youth of West Azerbaijan pointed to examples of the success of the province's athletes, including Ali Alipour and Fateme Majalal, and noted: the narrative of the path of effort and success of these athletes can show that with perseverance, targeting and proper support, it is possible to achieve great honors.
