Kerman Governor: Protecting Regional Music Preserves National Identity
Kerman – The governor of Kerman said regional music is part of the country's historical memory, oral culture, rituals, languages, and way of life across its various regions, and protecting it safeguards a part of Iran's cultural identity.
Kerman- Governor Kerman said: The music of the regions is a part of the historical memory, oral culture, rituals, languages and way of life of the people of different regions of the country, preserving it is considered a part of Iran's cultural identity.
According to the report of Ambassador Arjan Mohammad Ali Talebi, in the press conference and unveiling ceremony of the poster of the music festival of Iran's regions held in Tehran, he said: "Regional music is a part of the historical memory, oral culture, rituals, languages and lifestyle of the people of different regions of the country, and protecting it is actually considered a part of Iran's cultural identity."
Referring to the special capacity of Kerman to host this national event, he added: the ethnic, cultural and geographical diversity of the province from north to south and from east to west has turned Kerman into a "small Iran" and the local music and regions of the province are also a reflection of this diversity and cultural richness.
Emphasizing the necessity of perpetuating the achievements of the festival, the governor of Kerman said: Our view is that the district music festival should not be limited to just a few days of music performances, but should become a lasting cultural stream to identify, record, introduce and transfer the valuable heritage of district music to the new generation.
Connecting the music of the regions with the cultural tourism of Kerman
Talebi also emphasized on using the capacity of the festival to introduce the tourist and cultural attractions of the province and said: the presence of artists and groups from different parts of Iran in Kerman is a valuable opportunity to introduce the world heritage, desert, tourist villages, handicrafts, food and other cultural manifestations of the province.
He considered "cultural justice" to be one of the emphasized approaches in holding the festival and added: Culture and art should not be limited to provincial centers and big cities. Part of the festival programs can be held in cities and regions that have a musical background and capacity, so that the local people also consider themselves the real owners of this event.
The media should narrate the stories of people and musical instruments of the regions
In another part of his speech, the governor of Kerman, referring to the role of the media in introducing this event, said: the media coverage of the festival should not be limited to the opening and closing news; The narrative of people, artists, instruments, stories, rituals and cultures behind the music of the regions can be the most attractive and lasting part of the media narrative of the festival.
Talebi expressed his hope that holding this festival in Kerman, in addition to preserving the music of various tribes and regions of Iran, will be an opportunity to introduce the cultural and tourism capacities of the province and strengthen Kerman's position in hosting national cultural and artistic events.
