Venezia sacks Stroppa / Struggling coach dismissed after 6 consecutive defeats
The crisis-hit Venezia club in Serie A dismissed 58-year-old Giovanni Stroppa after starting the season without a win.
Serie A club Venezia announced on Tuesday that it has sacked its head coach, Giovanni Stropa, as the team languish at the bottom of the standings with zero points after six consecutive defeats.
Struppa, a former AC Milan midfielder and Italian national team player, took charge of Venezia in June last year and helped them climb back to the highest level of Italian football after a one-season absence by winning first place in Serie B.
"The club would like to thank Giovanni Strupa and his technical staff for their work, professionalism, dedication and commitment during his time with the orange, black and green," Venezia said in a statement.
According to Italian media reports, Paolo Zanetti and Davide Nicola are among the options considered to replace Stropa.
Venezia will host eighth-ranked Napoli on Saturday.
