Sony Pictures Classics has acquired US and international rights to student drama The Julia Set starring Chase Infiniti.

Directed by Nicky Byrne, the film made headlines at the Toronto Film Festival as Infinity's next feature after winning back-to-back Oscars. Seth Julia is with critics at 70% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Infiniti stars as math prodigy Julia Fisher, who is recruited into an elite introductory course that culminates in the most punishing math exam. At the same time, she falls in love with her charismatic teaching assistant Pascal (Christopher Briney). As Pascal collapses under the suffocating expectations of his father Alexander (Jason Isaacs), it is Pascal's mother Anne (Gillian Anderson) who helps Julia recognize and seize a moment of opportunity that will help define her future.

SPC buys rights in the United States, Benelux, Switzerland, Italy, Scandinavia, Spain, United Kingdom, Eastern Europe (excluding Poland), Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Israel and Asia (excluding Singapore).

Byrne said: "Growing up, I didn't realize people made movies. I thought they were owned by the gods, fell out of the sky, and if we were lucky, we got them. For 35 years, Michael Barker, Tom Bernard and their team at Sony Pictures Classics have made sure audiences can watch professional movies. Tune into their incredible library, and knowing that, movies are seen the way they should be seen. It will be: in a dark hall, together.

Sony Pictures Classics added: "With themes as wide-ranging as feminism, romantic infatuation, class differences, family conflict, bullying and love, and even what it means to be a math prodigy, Nicky Byrne's compelling and influential directorial debut makes sense of life in the modern world." Seeing the enthusiastic response at TIFF confirms what promises to be a huge theatrical success, and also shows that the much-acclaimed performance of the Infiniti Chase in one battle after another was no accident. He is at the center of this deeply rich and even suspenseful film, supported by an amazing cast including Christopher Briney, Gillian Anderson, Nina Huse, Jason Isaacs.

Pic also stars Nina Huse, Carmen Ejogo, Chloe Bailey, Niko Hiraga, Liz Lane, and Alex Dillard.

The Julia Series is produced by Potato Salad Cosmic Domination's Shaun Sanghani in association with SSS Entertainment, G Nus Media, IF/THEN, Grapevine Films, Cinetrain SA, Melegrano Films, Hanway Films, Gotham Group, Good Future Films and Vacancy Film Fund. Jeffrey Penman, Nick Sharma, Sean Sangani, Anderson, Eleonora Granata Jenkinson, Andrey Epifanov, David Treatman, Max Johnson, Lee Stollman, Ellen Goldsmith Wayne and Tyler Haynes are among the producers of this film.

Infinity received last year's Golden Globe, Actor's Choice, Critics' Choice and BAFTA nominations for its turn in Battle After Another. She was nominated for an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series Emmy for her role in Hulu's The Testaments.

The deal was negotiated between Sony Pictures Classics and Gersh.
