Giant Russian Fighter Jet Equipped with a Kitchen and Bathroom / Photo

The Su-34, a 4++ generation fighter, is Russia's most advanced bomber. Due to its long-range missions, it is equipped with a lavatory and a food warmer.

According to Ambassador Arjan, according to Ambassador Arjan, among the modern fighters of the world, there are few birds that have the characteristics of a maneuverable interceptor, a strategic heavy bomber and an unusual level of biological comfort for the crew. The Sukhoi-34 fighter-bomber, nicknamed Fullback in the NATO classification, was born with exactly this distinctive engineering approach.

Why is the cabin of this fighter different from others?

Long-duration assault flights, reaching more than 8-10 hours with multiple air refueling stages, put a crushing physiological and psychological strain on the crew. In conventional attack fighters such as the Tornado or the F-15E, pilots are locked into their seats in a back-to-back configuration. Russian designers in Su-34 changed this approach and used the side-by-side arrangement. In addition to improving visual communication and coordination between the pilot and the weapon systems officer, this structure left the space behind the seats open.

In this limited space, pilots have the possibility to stand and fully stretch their muscles. In addition, the installation of an electric flask for boiling water, a microwave or an electric chamber for heating food rations and a dedicated urinary interface under vacuum prevents the loss of biological efficiency of the crew during long missions.

All these parts are inside a 17 mm thick titanium armored capsule. This titanium tub, along with thick bulletproof glass, turns the cabin into a strong fortress against low-altitude air defenses, explosive shrapnel and medium-caliber bullets.

One of the cornerstones of Su-34 technology is the Leninets V004 radar package. This passive phased array radar with a special design of electronic scanning has two functions at the same time: accurate mapping of the ground surface and automatic terrain tracking system.

This system allows the pilot to maneuver at high speed in the blindest points of the enemy's defenses, at a height of several tens of meters above the ground, without the risk of hitting obstacles. In addition, the rear warning radar V005 is responsible for monitoring the rear hemisphere of the fighter and warning of air-to-air and surface-to-air missiles.

In the field of precision targeting, Platan's electro-optical system folds under the body and uses infrared sensors and laser pointers when locking on ground targets.

To protect the fighter from enemy radar intercepts, advanced Khibiny (L-175V) electronic warfare pods are deployed on the wingtips. By creating active jamming waves, simulating decoy signals and blinding detection and fire control radars of surface-to-air missiles, the Khibiny system creates an invisible but highly effective protective shield around the aircraft.

Thanks to 12 external weapons pylons, it can carry more than 8 to 12 tons of air-based weapons. Although the aircraft is equipped with a GSh-30-1 30 mm internal cannon and R-77 and R-73 air defense missiles for self-defense, the main weight of its combat load is ground attack munitions.

Sukhoi-34 is the manifestation of a pragmatic view in the military aviation industry; A structure in which the physical comfort of the crew is considered a technological factor to increase human resilience in modern attrition battles, and along with long-range radar systems and precision weapons, has turned this bird into one of the most feared tactical bombers in the world today.
