Phasmophobia Sales Reach 30 Million Copies; Annual Halloween Event Begins

Since its early access launch in 2020, Phasmophobia has sold more than 30 million copies across PC and console platforms. Announcing this milestone, Kinetic Games also noted the return of the event

Since launching in early access in 2020, Phasmophobia has sold more than 30 million copies on PC and console platforms.

While announcing this milestone, Kinetic Games also confirmed the return of its annual Halloween event called Crimson Eye; The event is available now and will continue until 10 Aban (November 1).

The Crimson Eye event brings Blood Moon weather to a rotating set of game maps each day. This condition makes ghosts move faster and players' Sanity drain faster, but in return, it gives you more rewards. Maps for this event include: Tanglewood Drive, Camp Woodwind, Grafton Farmhouse, Bleasdale Farmhouse, Point Hope (Standard mode only), Edgefield Road, Nell's Diner, and Willow Street.

Completing community goals unlocks the Beholder ID card and badge, as well as the Blood Moon trophy; While personal objectives will unlock items such as the Blood Moon pendant, a seasonal t-shirt, and upgrades for the Crimson Eye trophy.

If those rewards aren't enough for you, watching two hours of Phasmophobia streams on Twitch between October 16-23 (October 8-15) will earn you a Crimson Eye t-shirt decoration item. You can also earn experience points (XP) and double rewards from 23 to 30 Mehr (15 to 22 October).

The Ghost Hunts 4 Hearts charity campaign is also back for the event's final week, November 4-10 (October 26-November 1), in support of the American Heart Association. The Phasmophobia community raised more than $100,000 for the charity last year.

Daniel Knight, CEO of Kinetic Games Studio and director of Phasmophobia, said:

Things have changed a lot since I started making this game alone at my parents' house.

My original goal was to sell 1,000 copies in the first year, so it's hard to believe that we're now celebrating 30 million copies. A big thank you to everyone who experienced this game and to the team that worked on it alongside me. As we head towards version 1.0, much more content is on the way.

The release of version 1.0 is planned for the second half of 2027, and Kinetic Games will share previews of its development process from 2027; The previews will include major revisions to the game's ghost design and gameplay.

In early 2026, this studio also launched its own publishing division called Kinetic Publishing. The publisher's first game, a spaceship job simulator called Contact Protocol, is scheduled for release in spring 2027.

Phasmophobia is currently available in Early Access on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. This title can also be experienced with the virtual reality headset PS VR 2. In the future, we will also see the release of the game for the Nintendo Switch 2 console, but at the moment, the exact time is not known.

In early 2026, Kinetic Games confirmed that the release of version 1.0 of the game has been postponed from this year to 2027; Because after the critically acclaimed player character update, the studio announced that it was prioritizing quality over speed. The studio finally apologized to users for the problems encountered in this long-awaited update and admitted that it failed in this regard.

In the numerous patches and hotfixes that have since been released to fix the issues caused by the update, the studio has explained how it has been working to provide a much better experience for all users of the game by reviewing player feedback. Recently, Kinetic Studio released the second update to improve the quality of the game experience, which adds a set of new maps with limited access, simplifying the process of collecting evidence, fixing the problems of the virtual reality version and adding many more ways to get killed.

Admitting these difficult conditions, the production team said:

We've read feedback from the entire user community. The disappointment and frustration of the players has been quite evident.
