Veteran players manage to kill the new RuneScape in just two weeks

RuneScape Reignited was supposed to launch in early December
Jagex, developers of RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and RuneScape: Dragonwilds, has announced that it is canceling the RuneScape Reignited project. "Obviously we missed the point, and so we're not going ahead with it," Maude Ryan said in a video announcing the cancellation.
RuneScape Reignited was announced earlier this month at Runefest 2026, a community event dedicated to all things RuneScape. The project was supposed to be an update to the 25-year-old MMO, giving players the chance to essentially start the game over with a brand new economy, reset global achievements, and custom worlds built specifically for Reignited accounts. Reactivated players exist in the same world as veteran players, can chat, form guilds, and share player housing, but are unable to trade or party to defeat bosses.
And while the announcement excited some retired players and now-weary veterans of the world, others were less enthusiastic. Players felt that Reignited was focusing on new players at the expense of long-term vets, and that addressing the current issues that still plagued the game would be more helpful in the pursuit of player acquisition and retention than wiping the board clean. With this announcement, Jagex appears to have addressed those criticisms. We got all the different perspectives Mad Ryan said, "Our goal is to see RuneScape grow again, with players returning and new players joining, but never at the expense of our existing community."
RuneScape developer Jagex removed the trailer for "immediate investigation" following allegations of artificial intelligence.
We do not use GenAI to create our games, artwork or creative assets, nor do we knowingly allow it to be used on our behalf.
