It looks like the Eagles are going to add a QB from the Cowboys practice squad as Jalen Hurts deals with a blood clot.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed Joe Milton from the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad and Jalen Hurts is out indefinitely with a blood clot.

Jalen Hurts will miss the Philadelphia Eagles game against the Carolina Panthers due to a superficial blood clot. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wilds react to the news, asking the Eagles and Dallas Cowboys in trouble, as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers losing 3-0 to the Milwaukee Brewers.
In the NFL, availability is often described as a player's best ability. Jalen Hurts has pretty much embodied that idea since he was named the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Super Bowl LIX MVP started all 17 games in 2023, missed two games in 2024 with a concussion and sat out the regular-season finale in Philadelphia that year as the Eagles rested most of their players before the playoffs.
Tanner McKay filled in for Hurts in Week 18 to close out the 2025 season and will be called up again this Sunday. Hurts has been ruled out with what the team described as a superficial blood clot in the leg.

Hurts was a full participant in Friday's practice leading up to last Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite dealing with a calf injury, he was not on the injury report for last week's game in London.
While McKee will be the QB1 this weekend, the Eagles appear to be turning to their rival to shore up their quarterback room, possibly moving rookie Cole Payton out of the backup role in Week 6.
Philadelphia is set to sign Joe Milton off the Dallas Cowboys practice squad, according to multiple reports. According to NFL rules, any player signed from another team's practice squad must be placed on the new team's 53-man roster. So when the Eagles host the Carolina Panthers, Milton will be on the active roster looking to snap a three-game hitting streak.
The timetable for Hearts' return remains unclear. However, the Eagles released a statement detailing how the blood clot was discovered.
"On Thursday, Oct. 8, Jalen visited the practice room after practice and requested treatment for his calf," the team said. "He informed the medical staff that he had been separated during the Rams game on Oct. 4. This was his first treatment session for the calf injury after the game, after a full practice Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, Jalen was treated, practiced fully and was added to the practice report."
Legendary agent warns NFL teams about key quarterback mistakes that could derail season
The statement also said that team doctors recommended a follow-up scan after the game.
"Without much caution, the ultrasound was done Saturday after the team flew to London and walked. Ultrasound showed a superficial blood clot. Our medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and concluded that activity and mobility were important and that Jalen could play safely. Doctors recommended a follow-up ultrasound 72 hours after the game and flight back to Philadelphia.
Peyton, a fifth-round pick in April's draft, has appeared in just one game this season. He has yet to throw a pass in a regular season game. Milton has a bit more NFL experience, although he has never started a game. In limited action, he flashed both the mobility and arm strength that make him an intriguing prospect.
Sam Howell won the Cowboys' backup job during the offseason, prompting Milton to leave Dallas. Milton said he was surprised by the decision at the time. "It was shocking. But that's life. You've got to be able to live with it and take hits when the time comes."
Milton was later added to Dallas' practice squad, where he spent the past five weeks before being called up by the Eagles on Friday.

It's unclear if the Eagles' decision to add a quarterback is indicative of Hearts' situation or if they expect him to miss an extended period.
Hearts has thrown for 933 yards and 8 touchdowns in five games this season
