As important as some of The Social Reckoning's messages are, the film underperformed at the box office. According to Variety , Aaron Sorkin's next film on The Social Network took in $5.5 million this past weekend alone against a budget that is somewhere in the $30-42 million range. That makes it a certifiable flop that cost Columbia Pictures (and Sony) dearly — especially when you compare it to The Social Network's $22 million opening.

This isn't entirely surprising, given how mediocre the reviews have been for the film. It currently holds a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and has been widely trashed on social media. All of this may be a reflection of audiences' hopes for a sequel suitable for The Social Network, which won three Academy Awards for screenplay (written by Sorkin), editing and music. But it might speak to people who don't quite click with Mikey Madison's performance as whistleblower Frances Hagen or Jeremy Allen White's turn.Jeff Horowitz, Wall Street Journal reporter. (Madison, in turn, noted to The Hollywood Reporter that it was Sorkin's vision as a director that shied away from "a true, honest representation of a real person," something he hopes to do in the future.)

Ironically, Blumhouse's Other Mom made $27.5 million this weekend, which probably shows that people are more interested in novel horror movies than a reminder of how social media has made everyone's life worse.
