By announcing the statistics of enforcement of the law of more than 271,000 violations related to vehicle license plates since the beginning of 1405, the head of the comprehensive online center of the Tehran Traffic Police announced the start of a new plan and serious action against the violators. Violations, according to him, some of them are considered not only violations, but also crimes and are punishable by imprisonment.
According to Ambassador Arjan's report, Colonel Rabieh Gabaanakht, while explaining the details of this plan and the statistics of violations, emphasized the identity status of the vehicle license plate and said: The license plate is the identity card, identity and ownership document of the vehicle; Just like every person's fingerprint is unique to him, the license plate is unique to every vehicle and is considered the identity of that vehicle.
Regarding the history of license plates in Iran, he said: The first time in 1305, after the cars entered the country, the license plate procedure began, and in 1308, it was decided to add city codes with numbers to license plates. This practice has continued until today and now we see a variety of license plates, the identity of each city is known from its license plate.
Referring to the importance of the identity of the license plate, Colonel Zanbankhet stated: Considering the identity of the license plate, if the license plate is covered or its numbers are changed, it is no longer a simple violation, but a crime and a threat to the law, security, and social trust. Because the police and citizens expect that when they see a car or motorcycle, its license plate is visible and they feel that the person's identity is known and that the driver did not try to hide his identity. This shows the honesty of the driver.
Citing the Islamic Penal Code, he pointed out: According to Article 720 of this law, any person who changes the numbers and specifications of a motor vehicle license plate, or attaches another vehicle's license plate to it, or uses a fake license plate for it, will be sentenced to six months to one year in prison.
The head of the online comprehensive center of the Greater Tehran Traffic Police said in the breakdown of the types of violations: if the number plate is covered, a traffic violation has been committed; But if distorting the license plate or tampering with its numbers is done intentionally, in addition to the violation, a crime has also been committed and the driver is guilty. We have started a new plan and will deal seriously with these violators.
