Trump Rejects Live Broadcast of Nidal Hasan's Firing Squad Execution
Deputy Vance questioned the live broadcast of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hassan's execution.
President Donald Trump has announced that the planned firing squad execution of convicted Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hassan will not be broadcast live, reversing an earlier Pentagon announcement that the public would be able to watch the convicted mass murderer's final moments.
Trump said in a social media post that broadcasting the execution could act as a strong deterrent to terrorism, but acknowledged that many Americans would rather not see Hassan die.
"He will die by firing squad as scheduled, but this event will not be broadcast," Trump wrote.
Hassan's execution is scheduled for December 3. Trump said immediate family members of the 13 people killed in Hassan's 2009 rampage would be allowed to attend if they wanted.
