German Defense Minister: Trump Has Reached a Political Impasse
The German Defense Minister attributed Trump's recent controversial decisions, particularly regarding Ukraine, to intense domestic pressures.
The Minister of Defense of Germany considered Trump's recent controversial decisions, especially regarding Ukraine, to be due to severe internal pressures.
According to Ambassador Arjan, quoted by NTV, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius believes that US President Donald Trump is under severe domestic pressure.
Speaking at Employers' Day in Berlin, Pistorius said that Trump has reached a political dead end.
He added: History shows that leaders often seek to gain political points in foreign policy when faced with domestic pressure. Pistorius believes this strategy will backfire.
Pistorius said he always puts the president's threats in the context of the midterm elections. The Nov. 3 vote will elect the entire U.S. House of Representatives and roughly one-third of the Senate. The outcome could significantly affect Trump's ability to govern for the rest of his term.
On the one hand, Trump recently called for a new president for Ukraine and claimed that Zelensky had many opportunities to end Russia's war against Ukraine.
After meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump also announced that he had agreed with him that more than 300,000 tons of diesel would be immediately available to the United States and the world market. Instead, the US president plans to temporarily lift sanctions against Russia's energy sector. The European Union has strongly criticized this oil deal.
Trump also faces high resistance in the United States: Republican and Democratic senators called on him to change course as early as Sunday. They argued that the deal violates the 2022 law, which bans Russian energy imports until Moscow ends its aggression against Ukraine. Trump rejected criticism from within his own party.
Probably the reason for these actions of Trump is the high price of diesel in America. Since the start of the US-imposed war against Iran seven months ago, the price of diesel has increased by more than 60%. These high prices threaten the weak majority of the Republicans in the US Congress in the upcoming mid-term elections.
