Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential Released in Deluxe Folio Society Edition

The iconic Anthony Bourdain memoir Kitchen Confidential is getting a new edition from The Folio Society, featuring an exclusive portrait of the late, great chef by Paul Pope.

When it comes to writing about food with wit and candor, few can compete with the late, great Anthony Bourdain. Bourdain's memoir Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly remains a giant in the genre, and it's only fitting that the book is joining the ever-growing library of deluxe hardbacks at the Folio Society.

One of the many advantages of The Folio Society's edition of Kitchen Confidential is that it includes a portrait of Bourdain commissioned by his friend, the legendary artist Paul Pope. IGN can exclusively reveal the image below:

Here's the official rundown of what to expect from this edition of Kitchen Confidential:

Pope said in a statement: "Tony was a special person and I am glad to have met and worked with him." "I wanted to evoke his younger days with a bit of an expressionist/punk portrait that combines the Lower East Side of New York and the music he loves. Bourdain forever and always Bourdain."

Editor Mandy Kirkby says: "Kitchen Confidential, told in Bourdain's rousing, full-throttle, wildly funny style, continues to appeal all these years because its pages are filled with the originality, passion and generosity of spirit of its iconic author." Restaurant kitchen culture has changed since he was written, but some things remain: brunch is usually thin fare, chicken is reserved for scaredy cats and unrecognizable people, and oysters are a bad idea in an empty restaurant, any day of the week. It's not a cookbook — not even a book about food, per se — but it'll definitely make you hungry."
