X This is a classic move: a villain, or sometimes a hero, throws himself into a seemingly inevitable situation. There is danger everywhere - there is no way out! But just as the good guys (or bad guys) are about to pounce, he sticks the pin he took out of the grenade under his coat and forces everyone to back off! Escape is near!
This strategy seems to have now been adopted by famed Grand Theft Auto 6 leaker Cyberleek, and by "seems", I mean, they've nailed it. In a message posted to their defunct website but preserved by GTA VI News on X, Cyberleek pledged not to release anything more about GTA 6 — including its ending, which remains unknown at this point — until Take-Two lets it all go.
The message reads: "CL has ended. Considered." It severely punishes Take-Two, but ruins the experience for gamers who have done nothing wrong. Take-Two shows CL no mercy - why should CL? However: Take-Two was punished enough.
"The ending remains unreleased. Proof: the latest leek - clips from the final missions, out of context, reveal nothing. Dead man's switch is on - only story spoilers. Leave it alone, never shoot. Whoever takes out CL picks it up."
A dead man's switch is, in general, a switch that is designed to operate when the operator is incapacitated. For example, Miles Dyson blew up Cyberdyne Systems with an improvised dead switch in Terminator 2 (not that it worked very well), and Roger Murtagh literally put a grenade pin in a lethal weapon while trying to save his daughter from the Shadow Company's henchmen. For example, in Point Break, Rosie is ordered to kill Johnny's girlfriend Utah if Bodie doesn't show up by 3 o'clock to ensure Johnny's involvement in the bank robbery.
GTA 6 leaker threatens to upload a build with "full story mode"
Who is Cyberleek? What we know about GTA 6 spoiler
Grand Theft Auto 6 leaker says they won't stop until Rockstar and Take-Two apologize for "anti-consumerism" and make a "tangible commitment to do better."
My personal favorite dead man switch comes from Hawk the Slayer:
Despite this particular variation on the theme, Dead Man's switches are considered the ultimate failures: if something bad happens to me, something much worse will happen to you.

It makes me wonder if Cyberleek's sudden retreat and proposed de-escalation with Take-Two means they're starting to feel the heat. Take-Two takes this kind of thing seriously, and you can bet that it's going to be very hard for anyone to screw up their biggest game, which is undoubtedly GTA 6. I have no doubt that life will get very unpleasant for Cyberleek, very quickly, if and when they are caught.
The problem Cyberleek faces, of course, is that their leverage - assuming it's real in the first place - has a very short shelf life. In six weeks at most, there will be the end of GTA 6, at which point there will be no shots left to shoot.
So, at best, this threat gives Cyberleek an extra month to find a deeper hole to hide in.
Cyberleek also defended its cryptocurrency solicitation, saying it was "always a donation, never an investment," and denied that a rugpull had occurred. They also said that they will not release the full GTA 6 build with "full story mode, until the end of the game" because their memecoin market cap has not reached $30 million.
