Bitcoin, Copper, Stocks: Full Autumn Returns; Gold Climbs
Your Outlook for October 15, 2026
Bitcoin at $80,972.85 Bitcoin is down more than 2% in the last 24 hours, and some other major coins like XRP (XRP), Ether at $2,362.22, and Solana (SOL) are down even more. This move sounds less like a crypto-specific story and more like a mass exodus from risky investments.
Copper futures, a barometer of the health of the global economy, fell nearly 1 percent, extending Wednesday's 1.6 percent decline. Other growth-sensitive assets fell, and Asian stocks fell on a failure in Korean chip production. Nasdaq index futures and risk-sensitive currency pairs such as the Australian dollar and the Swiss franc have also declined.
At the same time, Treasury yields are falling — meaning bond prices are rising — while gold is up 1%. The yield on the 10-year note, the benchmark borrowing rate, fell 8 basis points to 5.08 percent, extending its retreat from a recent peak of 5.36 percent. Treasuries and gold are often considered heaven investments.
Taken together, these moves point to investors reducing risk exposure and seeking safety, mixed with some fears of deflation.
"This looks more like a deflationary environment with risk assets and the US dollar generally underperforming, while gold is outperforming," InvestingLive analyst Giuseppe Dellamotta wrote in a market update.
Fed concerns about interest rate hikes were cited as one of the catalysts after Wednesday's hotter-than-expected US CPI report. But that concern seems to be fading.
CME federal funds futures are now only priced. There is a 29% chance of a 29% increase in the central bank's interest rate to a range of 4-4.25% later this month. The remaining possibility is that rates will remain unchanged at 3.75% to 4%. After the CPI was printed, the odds briefly approached 50%, but quickly declined.
Looking ahead, Thursday's producer price index will provide another reading on how much inflation remains in the pipeline. A hot number can add to the mood of risk.
Traders will also watch the AI trade and see if it continues to drop. Analysts at 10x Research still prefer to hold Bitcoin as long as this trend continues, but only as long as Bitcoin is above $78,000. Additionally, they prefer to "use Ether as a cover for BTC buy positions."
The chart shows the daily price volatility of Ether in candle form since May.
Ether is testing the double support zone near $2350, formed by a horizontal trend line and an uptrend line. The horizontal line has acted as a stable support since August 23, while the uptrend line shows an uptrend from the July low.
A break below this confluence would indicate a significant weakening of demand and could pave the way for deeper losses.
