The Odyssey opened in theaters in July to rave reviews (except for the translator of the most popular version of the epic poem) and massive success, grossing well over $1 billion at the international box office. Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and other ancient Greeks star in this movie.
Like Homer's sources, this is a largely episodic story as the hero Odysseus encounters a variety of problems on his way home to Ithaca, where his wife Penelope and son Telemachus await. Along the way he meets a cyclops, some sirens, a sorceress named Circe and other side quests.
Do you think Nolan's ending works for The Odyssey or should he stick with the original?
It's complicated. Let's discuss in the comments.
Reviewing the film, critic Scott Collura wrote, "Christopher Nolan's Odyssey is a must-see cinematic experience, an epic cinematic version of an epic poem that adapts many of Homer's external concepts through a new eye that often brings a sense of existential dread and angst to the story—and even a little humor!"
