Export of 2,000 MW of Iranian Electricity to Afghanistan on Energy Ministry's Table

The Ministry of Energy has examined a proposal to transfer electricity from wind power plants in southern Khorasan and northern Sistan and Baluchestan to the cities of Kabul, Herat and Kandahar, aiming to expand electricity exports to Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Energy reviewed the proposal to transfer electricity from wind power plants in South Khorasan and North Sistan and Baluchistan to the cities of Kabul, Herat and Kandahar with the aim of developing electricity exports to Afghanistan.

According to the report of Ambassador Arjan, quoted by the Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy of the Ministry of Energy, Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi, the Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy of the Ministry of Energy, in the meeting to review the implementation requirements of the 765 kV national network plan, considered the development of this network necessary to increase the power transmission capacity, reduce losses and improve the stability of the national network.

Referring to the changes in the consumption pattern and the increase in electricity demand, he said that strategic developments and recent events have advanced the process of electrification of the country's needs and expenses by at least two years. According to him, the development of the high voltage network should be followed according to these changes.

Referring to the dimensions of this project, Rajabi Mashhadi asked domestic consultants and contractors to declare their readiness to participate in the construction of about 20,000 megavolts of substation capacity and 6,200 km of transmission line circuits. He also emphasized on using the capacity of domestic manufacturers to provide the required equipment, including crossarms, fittings and insulators.

In this meeting, Mehdi Arabsadegh, the manager of the 765 KV network project, presented a report on the corridors designed to transfer electricity from the south to the north of the country and the technical and engineering requirements of the project. According to the presented report, notification of the construction of a substation in the area of Azerbaijan's regional electricity activity and the routing of the transmission line of Asaluyeh to the area of Fars' regional electricity activity are among the measures taken in this plan.

Also, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Energy, the schedule for the implementation of the final projects and the necessary coordination for the start of their implementation are to be done.

Examining the export of electricity to Afghanistan

The development of electricity exchanges with Afghanistan was also one of the topics discussed in this meeting. According to the understandings announced between the two countries for the development of energy exchanges up to 2000 megawatts, a proposal was made to investigate the construction of a high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission infrastructure to transfer the electricity produced by wind power plants in South Khorasan and North Sistan and Baluchistan to the cities of Kabul, Herat and Kandahar.

According to the report presented in this meeting, the possibility of investment by the Afghan side through clearing has also been considered in the framework of the development of energy cooperation between the two countries.

In another part of this meeting, the criteria for connecting wind power plants to 765 kV substations and investment frameworks in the field of electricity transit were reviewed and approved.
