Bayaz-Khani Ritual of Bamrud Village in Zirkouh Registered on the National Intangible Heritage List
The head of intangible heritage registration at the South Khorasan Provincial Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts announced that the traditional Bayaz-Khani ritual of Bamrud village in Zirkouh County has been registered on the national intangible heritage list.
According to the report of Arya Heritage, Fariba Kahni said on Wednesday, October 22, 1405: "Biyad Khani ritual is one of the ancient traditions of mourning in Bemroud village of Zirkoh city, which has been preserved from generation to generation, relying on epic poems and poetic narration of the events of Karbala, and is still held during Muharram days."
The spiritual heritage registration officer of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of South Khorasan added: This ritual is held in the first decade of Muharram, from the first night to the twelfth of this month, especially on the night and day of Tasua and Ashura, in the mosques and hussainiehs of Bemroud village, and it is a manifestation of the religious beliefs, native culture and mourning traditions of the people of this region.
He continued: Native poets of Bemroud village have written the events of Karbala in the form of epic poems and collected them in notebooks called "Divan" or "Bayaz". The name of this ritual is also taken from these poetry notebooks.
Pointing to the way this ceremony is held, Kahini said: In men's gatherings, one of the participants recites the poems by heart, and the other participants repeat the verses collectively. This ceremony is held in a sitting position, and the way it is performed is different from some other common mourning rituals.
The spiritual heritage registration officer of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts of South Khorasan said: In women's gatherings, one of the women recites poems related to the Karbala event from the pulpit, and the others listen to it.
Referring to the method of transmission of this tradition, he pointed out: "Biyad Khani" is one of the rituals whose preservation and transmission over generations, especially from fathers to sons, has played an important role in the continuation of this cultural heritage. The implementation of this ritual in men's gatherings is the responsibility of men, and its continuation shows the deep connection of the people of the region with the religious beliefs and traditions of their ancestors.
Kahni emphasized: Registering this ritual in the list of intangible heritage of the country is a step in the direction of preserving the anthropological, religious and cultural values of the people of Zirkoh and safeguarding the valuable traditions of mourning in South Khorasan.
In the end, he said: supporting native rituals and introducing them to future generations is an undeniable necessity to preserve cultural identity and link today's generation with the proud past of this land.
