The president of the University of Tehran announced the study of the idea of merging Tehran University and Tehran University of Medical Sciences and said: "Discussions about forming a comprehensive university with the aim of scientific synergy and improving the international status of the two universities are in the initial stages."

According to ambassador Arjan; Mohammad Hossein Omid, President of Tehran University, said about the news published about the review of the merger of Tehran University and Tehran University of Medical Sciences: Both universities have been working for synergy and promotion of international status for many years and have taken joint measures in this field. Recently, several collaborations have started between the two boards and the joint secretariat and joint fund have started working to support the interdisciplinary researches of the professors of the two universities.

He added: These actions are carried out in order to enhance the position of Tehran University and Tehran University of Medical Sciences at the national, regional and international levels.

Saying that these two universities still have the highest ranks among the universities of the country, the president of Tehran University said: "Tehran University and Tehran University of Medical Sciences are next to each other in almost all the world rankings." Carrying out joint activities, using the resources and capacities of two universities and the cooperation of professors can be effective in improving their status.

Referring to the holding of numerous meetings to examine the possibility of wider cooperation between the two universities, Omid clarified: In these discussions, the fields of cooperation were further explored and one of the issues raised is the formation of a comprehensive university in the country that includes both science and medical sciences.

He continued: Although the field of medical education has been separated from the field of science for many years, the issue of forming a comprehensive university has been raised in the initial stages and discussions have been held about it. The University of Tehran has the ability to fully include the collection of sciences and form a comprehensive structure.

The President of Tehran University emphasized: The main focus of the talks is synergy and promotion of the two universities, and examining the possibility of placing these two universities in the form of a comprehensive university is also one of the issues raised in these talks. If this issue is realized, the global position of a university that includes both areas can be significantly improved and this will be effective.

Omid pointed out: The talks conducted so far have been at the same level and we have not gone into details. These talks will continue and different solutions, areas of cooperation and how to unite and synergize the two universities will be discussed.

He added: If we reach the conclusion, the two universities will make it operational and final. It is obvious that in this direction, we need mutual thinking and help from colleagues, officials, and those involved, and negotiations at different levels should also be done, which, God willing, will be followed in the future.
