Sega is pulling Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition from storefronts after a disastrous launch where users complained of issues like bugs and upscaling that appeared to be done by artificial intelligence.
The full version, a remastered version of the 2011 strategy game, launched on Tuesday, bringing the original game and all its DLC with promised upgrades including "improved visuals", "1440p scaling and 4K UI" and modern controls. It has an "extremely negative" rating on Steam, where it has already been pulled, and posts on Reddit feature artwork that users believe the AI has messed up.
"We know that Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition falls short of both your expectations and our standards," Sega and developer Creative Assembly wrote in a post. We have seen your feedback, comments and reviews. "We agree that the current experience is not where it needs to be." The two companies say they will "restore the original game" and that current owners "will still be able to access the full version."
Sega and Creative Assembly say they are "working closely with our development partner to identify the causes of these issues, provide improvements, and ensure that Shogun 2 - Complete Edition meets the quality standards players have come to expect from Total War." A studio called Mataboo is also listed as the developer of the game on Steam, and Mataboo highlights their work on the game on their website.
