The Redmi Note series from the Chinese technology giant, Xiaomi, has always been one of the important players in the mid-range and budget phone market. This family is considered a tough competitor for brands like Samsung, Realme and Honor by providing specifications close to the flagships, affordable price and high build quality.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro phone has just been introduced and is the new generation of the Redmi Note Pro series, which will replace the Redmi Note 15 Pro. Currently, Redmi Note 15 Pro is available in the market in 5G and 4G versions, and soon Redmi Note 17 Pro will also be available in the market. You may be wondering what has changed in the new generation and whether it is worth paying a higher price for the new generation (because most likely newer phones are more expensive).

Note: The 16th generation was not introduced to be similar to the iPhone due to the advertising reasons of different generations of Xiaomi. That is, Xiaomi 17 should be compared to iPhone 17 and Xiaomi 18 should be compared to iPhone 18.

In this article, we will examine the difference between Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro and Redmi Note 15 Pro, what features have improved, worsened or not changed at all. Is the difference between these two models significant enough to justify upgrading to a newer model? Or is Redmi Note 15 Pro still an economical and valuable option to buy?

We want to put these two popular mid-range phones under the microscope from all angles by carefully examining their daily functionality.

To better understand the specifications of the Redmi Note 17 Pro against its predecessor, the following table compares the key parts of both devices:

At first glance at both phones, Xiaomi's modern and high-quality design language stands out. The Redmi Note 15 Pro phone, with its flat frame, strong body and waterproof certification, set new standards in the mid-range class and was able to satisfy demanding users.

The design of Redmi Note 17 Pro is more minimal and the camera section is smaller, but Xiaomi engineers have made an ergonomic improvement in this model. Despite the significant increase in battery capacity and weight increase of 13 grams, the phone body does not convey the feeling of a heavy or thick device to the user. The edges of the back frame are designed a little softer and more curved so that the hand does not get tired during long-term use or while playing. If ergonomics and a good hand feel are important to you along with a durable body, the Note 17 Pro has created a unique balance. Also, a cloud-like pattern can be seen on the back panel, which has helped make the phone more beautiful.

Overall, in our opinion, Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro is simpler, more stylish, more comfortable and more beautiful than Redmi Note 15 Pro.

If you are one of those users who are stressed about running out of battery during the day, this part is the turning point of the difference between Redmi Note 17 Pro and 15 Pro.

This amount of charging makes the Note 17 Pro a phone with excellent battery life for commuters, internet taxi drivers, and people who are away from home or work for long hours.

Note: Some competitors of Redmi Note 17 Pro, such as Poco X8 Pro and Realme 16T, perform better in this field despite having a battery with a lower capacity.

The processor (SoC) of these two midranges is powered by two different benchmarks and architectures:

In general, in terms of hardware, Redmi Note 17 Pro was expected to be better than its previous generation, but if we were to be disappointed somewhere in this phone, one is in the hardware department and one in the camera department. Maybe Xiaomi wanted to draw attention to the more expensive version of the 17 series, the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max. Of course, we can expect a version of this phone with a more powerful processor (maybe in the 4G version and maybe the Chinese or Indian version).

On paper, this part is one of the disappointing things about Redmi Note 17 Pro. The camera has been reduced to 50 megapixels and has a smaller lens. It seems that Xiaomi's priority in this phone was more on the battery than anything else. Valid tests of the Redmi Note 17 Pro camera (such as the DXOMark test) have not yet been published, but in general, the difference between the cameras of these two models is as follows:

1. Camera quality loss (on paper): The main lens is now 50MP, which is much less than the previous generation's 200MP, and it also uses a smaller lens. Selfie is 16 megapixels, which is weaker than the previous generation. Also, 1080p video recording has dropped compared to 4K video recording in the previous generation. Of course, we cannot comment on the quality of the photos until the results of valid tests are published.

2. Weaker but more stable processor: The use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chip shows that Xiaomi has put the main focus of this model on optimizing energy consumption and stability rather than high benchmarks.

4. Slight weight gain: The inclusion of such a gigantic battery has brought the weight of the device to about 223 grams.

One of the most important factors when buying a mobile phone is checking the ratio of price to features.

The price of Xiaomi Redmi Note 17 Pro was announced at 380 Euros while the Redmi Note 15 Pro was announced at 356 Euros. However, comparing the price of Redmi Note 17 Pro and Redmi Note 15 Pro, the 15 Pro model is offered at a more economical and suitable price due to its longer presence in the market (of course, we are speaking based on previous experience and we have to wait until this phone enters the market). Therefore, buying Redmi Note 15 Pro is the best option for users who want to own a powerful and complete phone at a reasonable cost.

Note: We did not mention the Riyal price because, as you know, the prices may change tomorrow.

In contrast, the Note 17 Pro is worth buying for people who value improvements like the 8,340 mAh battery, Snapdragon processor, and longer Android 16 software support, and don't mind paying more for the latest technology. But in terms of camera and hardware, don't expect much from this phone.

The final choice between these two attractive Xiaomi midranges depends on your priorities and budget level:

No; By optimizing the frame and internal components, Xiaomi has kept the weight of the phone within the standard range and it is only 13 grams heavier than the previous generation. Proper weight distribution has made Redmi Note 17 Pro even more comfortable than the previous generation.

If higher battery life, higher Android, newer software, and a Snapdragon processor are important to you, then yes, the upgrade is totally worth it. Otherwise, the Note 15 Pro is still a powerful, up-to-date phone with a better camera and more powerful hardware.

Redmi Note 15 Pro with Dimensity 7400 Ultra processor offers a higher frame rate and better graphics processing, but Redmi Note 17 Pro has less frame loss and heat in the long-term game than Mediatek, thanks to the Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chipset and higher thermal stability.
