37 Accident-Prone Spots Fixed, 90% Progress on Central Corridor Asphalt Overlay

Arak – The director general of Markazi Province's Roads Maintenance Department said 37 accident-prone spots were fixed and five grade-separated intersections were organized last year. He added that asphalt overlay work on the province's corridor roads has progressed beyond 90%.

Arak- Director General of Central Province Roads, referring to the elimination of 37 accident-prone points and the organization of five non-level intersections last year, said: the implementation progress of the asphalt coating of the corridor axes of this province exceeded 90%.

According to Mehr reporter, Ruhollah Mohsenzadeh stated before noon on Wednesday at the specialized conference on bitumen and asphalt with the focus on the development of transportation infrastructure and the use of new materials in Arak: Central province has an important role in the country's economy due to its diverse industries in the fields of agriculture, mining, petrochemical, and nuclear, and the sustainable dynamics of these sectors depends on the development and strengthening of transportation infrastructure.

He stated: Central province is the third busiest province in the country and being on the path of two important corridors, north-south and east-west, has doubled the importance of road development and continuous maintenance of road infrastructure.

The General Director of Roads and Road Transport of the Central Province continued: About 240 kilometers of the North-South Corridor is located in the mentioned area of this province, which starts from the Saveh Freeway and extends from Rahjard, Arak, Toure and Borujerd; An issue that shows the necessity of providing infrastructures suitable for the high volume of traffic.

Referring to the measures taken last year, Mohsenzadeh said: With the support of the head of the Road and Road Transport Organization, the support of the central governor and the convergence of the construction management complex of the province, effective measures were taken in the field of improving safety and improving transportation axes.

He added: During this period, 37 accident-prone spots in the central province were fixed, 32 of which were located in the main corridors, and five non-level intersections, whose implementation was one of the people's long-standing demands, were organized.

Director General of Roads and Road Transport of Central Province, referring to the progress of asphalt coating operations in corridor axes, said: Currently, the physical progress of these projects in the asphalt coating sector has exceeded 90%, and a significant part of the executive operations has been prepared for exploitation and use by the people.

Mohsenzadeh stated: The implementation of large-scale asphalt projects is usually done in a few years due to limited credits and phased allocation of resources. However, the support provided has provided the ground for significant improvement projects in the corridor axes of the province.

Emphasizing the need to use new technologies and materials in road construction, he said: the increase in the volume of asphalt operations, the limitation of financial resources and the need to improve the quality and durability of roads, has increased the need to move towards new financing methods, asphalt recycling and the use of alternative materials.

The Director General of Roads and Road Transport of Central Province added: In this regard, cooperation with the Road, Housing and Urban Development Research Center has been pursued in several specialized areas and studies have been conducted for the use of materials obtained from aluminum waste in various road construction sectors.

Mohsenzadeh continued: In the first step, due to the existence of some technical limitations, the use of these materials faced challenges; Therefore, modifying the methods and investigating the possibility of using aluminum waste in the Rockfill section of road construction projects in cooperation with the research center is on the agenda.

He also pointed to the studies conducted to deal with the changes in vertical shapes at the inspection stations and said: In this field, specialized studies have been conducted and one of the main axes of the province has been selected as an example. The final plan of this project has been approved and its implementation can provide the basis for using similar solutions in other areas of the country.

The Director General of Roads and Road Transport of Central Province emphasized the necessity of developing scientific and executive cooperation and stated: Creating a secretariat with the participation of neighboring provinces and utilizing the capacity of the Road, Housing and Urban Development Research Center as the scientific arm of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development can provide the basis for expanding the use of modern materials and modern methods in road construction projects.

Mohsenzadeh said: The aim of this approach is to move away from traditional methods and move towards technologies that increase productivity and reduce costs, while improving the quality and durability of road infrastructure.

He said: It is hoped that holding this conference for the first time in Central Province will provide the opportunity to exchange specialized experiences, develop new road construction methods, save resources and provide more effective services to the people.
