Over 60% of the country's pharmaceutical market is supplied by domestic manufacturers

The Director General of Pharmaceutical Products at the Food and Drug Organization said that, amid wartime conditions and simultaneous supply constraints and economic pressures, prioritizing domestic production capacity and replacing expensive imported drugs with high-quality Iranian equivalents has been placed at the top of the agenda, with the aim of preserving patients' access to essential medicines.

The director general of pharmaceutical products of the Food and Drug Organization said: In war conditions and at the same time as supply restrictions and economic pressures, the use of domestic production capacity and the replacement of expensive imported drugs with high-quality Iranian samples were prioritized in order to maintain patients' access to essential drugs.

According to Ambassador Arjan's report, Dr. Akbar Abdullahi Asal stated in this regard: Since March 1404 and with the beginning of the Ramadan war, the conditions for providing medicine became more complicated and the simultaneous air war with the siege and economic pressures brought more challenges to the health system.

He added: In this situation, one of the main issues was how to allocate limited resources between expensive imported drugs and domestically produced drugs. Therefore, the Food and Drug Organization prioritized the use of domestic production capacity and Iranian alternatives in order to maintain people's access to essential medicines.

Referring to the high cost of some specialized imported drugs, Abdullahi Asal said: In some cases, the cost of these drugs reaches 200 to 300 million tomans, which is difficult for the patient and even the insurance system to cover. Therefore, the use of Iranian drugs with appropriate quality and effectiveness can help reduce the financial pressure and continue the treatment of patients.

Referring to the share of domestic production in the country's pharmaceutical market, the Director General of Pharmaceutical Products of the Food and Drug Organization stated: More than 60% of the country's pharmaceutical market is supplied by domestic producers, and this capacity plays an important role in the continuation of patients' access to medicine in the conditions of limited resources and disruptions in import routes.

He emphasized: supporting domestic production does not mean ignoring the quality and effectiveness of medicines; Rather, the selection and replacement of medicinal products should be done based on quality requirements, effectiveness and therapeutic considerations in order to maintain the health of patients.

Abdullahi Asal added: The continued access of patients to essential drugs in difficult conditions requires the cooperation of all parts of the supply chain, from manufacturers and doctors to insurance companies and patients, and the rational use of pharmaceutical resources can help to better manage supply and maintain access to patients.

According to the public relations report of the Food and Drug Organization, he noted: Taking advantage of the power of the domestic pharmaceutical industry, along with monitoring the quality and effectiveness of the products, is one of the important strategies to maintain the stability of drug supply and support patients in the conditions of economic and supply restrictions.
