Script President Steven Van Roosmalen said: “As one of Europe's largest local streaming platforms, Videoland has the freedom to take risks and approach crime drama in a different way. Popular in Variety
We tell raw and direct stories that are deeply rooted in Dutch society, but explore universal themes. This is exactly what makes Dutch crime so appealing to the audience."
Its core is the world of "Macro Mafia", which is one of the best-selling Dutch series of recent years. Over the course of six seasons and several spin-offs, it has grown into a complete crime universe, licensed to German and French-speaking Europe, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Belgium, Latin America and Japan.
"Consumers are looking for the next 'Mocro Mafia.'" Dutch Noir is where they'll find it, said Snoop Media CEO Pim van Colm.
“This slate has scope, scale and attitude. It is rooted in the reality of the drug trade in the Netherlands.
The Dutch noir slate for Mipcom is led by Videoland Original "Narcostad," created by "Mocro Maffia" star Nasrdin Dchar.
The series follows teenagers recruited into Rotterdam's drug economy, and is presented alongside three other Videoland Originals films: the second season of Mocro Maffia spin-off "Tonnano", the fourth and final season of "Sleepers" and the short heist thriller "Rippers".
All four series are produced by Amsterdam-based Fiction Valley.
Skoop Media does not believe in "crime fatigue" - quite the opposite.
"Audiences do not tire of crime. They're always on the lookout for new crime series, fascinated by raw, bold characters, gritty, realistic storytelling. Van Kolm added that the international fan base and consistent sales of Mocro Mafia's six seasons in Europe, Latham and Asia are proof that Dutch noir stories travel.
This tag is an example of the best Dutch crime series.
It is rooted in a small country that is not only a background for crime stories. This is where most of Europe's underworld is rooted."
