Carragher's Patience Runs Out / The End of the Road: Liverpool Must Drop Wirtz!
Jamie Carragher believes Florian Wirtz no longer has a place in Liverpool's starting lineup.
According to "Sports Three", Wirtz is once again in the center of public criticism. After Liverpool's 0-3 defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League, experts criticized Wirtz. According to one of the legends of Liverpool, this player no longer deserves to be in the first team.
"The presence of Florian Wirtz hasn't worked and it still hasn't," Carragher said on Sky Sports. I can hardly remember a game where he helped Liverpool win. What should Airola do? He needs to take Wirtz out of the lineup. "In my opinion, Liverpool gave him enough time and I think he should be left out."
Wirtz was included in the starting line-up against Manchester City and played 66 minutes, before being replaced by Iraola and Terry Nayoni. At the time, Liverpool had just suffered a red card for Ryan Grauenbrech and conceded Erling Holland's first goal. However, Wirtz failed to deliver an acceptable performance as a creative attacking midfielder. During an hour of play, he didn't have any notable performances or shots.
Carragher believes Wirtz, who joined Liverpool from Leverkusen in the summer of 2025, has not improved. "He's played about 55-60 games for us now and I still don't see any change in him," said the former defender. He was brought here to be a star in the Premier League. I felt that Wirtz could develop into a player like Kevin De Bruyne. A player who made a difference in the championship race between Manchester City and Liverpool."
However, Carragher hopes that Wirtz will perform better in the German national team: "The only hope is that Jurgen Klopp takes him under his wing." Carragher added that Wirtz performed particularly well in the past when Klopp was manager of Liverpool.
