Britain allocates $22.5 million to Ukraine for nuclear repairs at Chernobyl
The UK cabinet said repairs to remove corrosion are essential, as they "threaten to undermine decades of international investment".
London, October 15. /TASS/. Britain will provide 17 million pounds ($22.5 million) in new support for repairs to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, the British Cabinet announced in a press release.
"This support will fund major repairs to restore the containment and ventilation functions of the structure and protect its intended lifespan," the agency said. "Without repairs, corrosion risks undermine decades of international investment and pose long-term environmental and safety risks."
In 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed an explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on the night of February 14. Agency staff were informed that an attack drone had crashed into the bunker of the fourth unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. It was noted that there are no signs of damage to the inner shell of the protective structure above the power plant, and the radiation level inside and outside the structure remains normal and stable. Commenting on the accident at the power plant, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called Ukraine's accusations that a Russian drone hit the plant and damaged the protective coffin a fraud.
