Only One Person Opposed Russia's Return to Volleyball

The president of Ukraine's Volleyball Federation revealed details of the vote by the European Volleyball Confederation's board on Russia's return, a decision that passed with only one vote against and two abstentions.

According to "Verzeh Se", Russian national teams and clubs are paving the way to return to the most important volleyball arenas. However, the behind-the-scenes decisions of the European authorities have created certain excitement and margins. The head of the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation revealed the details of the voting of the European Volleyball Confederation; A vote in which the only representative of Latvia voted against.

According to Ukrainian Volleyball Federation President Mykhailo Melnyk, the decision was made at a CEV board meeting and was not voted on at a congress that could have been held with representatives of all national federations.

"There may have been some hesitation to bring this up in Congress, but the bottom line would have been the same," Melnyk said. I don't think a majority would have been obtained. However, there were more dissenting votes, perhaps 10 to 15 countries; Therefore, the Russians would be readmitted anyway."

The Ukrainian official also admitted that before the vote, no one had consulted them about the position of the Ukrainian Volleyball Federation in this regard.

The vote of the board of directors of the European Volleyball Confederation on the return of Russia ended with 15 votes in favor, one vote against and two abstentions. The only dissenting vote was cast by Artur Vitkoskis, representative of Latvia. The Polish Volleyball Federation, which is a staunch opponent of Russia's return to the competition, does not have a representative on the European Volleyball Board.
