⚔️ After unblocking the upper level, find the cave with the lost scouts halfway up the elevator shaft.
⚔️ No matter what you choose to say to the officer's adjutant, you will receive the Sleight of Hand amber.
⚔️ However, depending on whether you told the truth or a lie, you will receive a bonus reward.
An Unknown Farewell is probably the first quest you'll encounter in Valor Mortis, and it sees you helping a Warrant Officer in Ash Valley find his missing scouts.
Scouts are located in a cave halfway up the elevator shaft from The Climb's lantern, but to unlock the path, you must go to the top of the elevator first.
From the Adjutant Sous-Officier, you will:
Advance through the level, grab the pistol, unlock the elevator, and advance through the caves until you reach the top of the elevator.
As you can see in the video above, shoot the two glowing naphthoglobulin growths to unlock the elevator and pull the lever to raise it.
Go down the elevator and jump to the left about halfway, where you'll see a ledge and a wall you can burn.
Defeat the tough soldier enemy in the cave - I suggest using fire to drain his health - and grab the notes from the tent behind him.
If you continue down the main path after this, you'll eventually find yourself at the So-Officer's Adjutant, where you can choose whether to tell him the truth or a lie about the fate of his scouts.
If you tell the truth, you'll get the Sleight of Hand amber and you can talk to him after you rest and get extra catalysts as a reward.
If you lie, you'll still get the Sleight of Hand amber, but after you rest, you'll find his body in the cave where the scouts were, with Remnant's Return (a one-time item that lets you retrieve the catalysts you left behind when you died, wherever you are).
