This Face Mask Is Bulletproof

Armor manufacturers have developed full-face masks using Kevlar polymer composites that protect the body's most vulnerable area.

According to Ambassador Arjan, according to Ambassador Arjan, the traditional idea of medieval armor masks was based on heavy steel plates. The early tests of the armies in the 20th century also showed that pure metals are a disastrous option for the face due to their high weight, inflexibility, and especially the dangerous phenomenon of rebound and throwing secondary shrapnel. A direct hit to a steel plate could have delivered a lethal shock wave to the brain and spine without the bullet penetrating.

A turning point in face armor engineering came when synthetic fibers with high tensile strength entered the defense production cycle. New masks are produced from ultra-light composites including compressed aramid and ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. In this process, multiple layers of fibers are condensed with specialized resins under high pressure and temperature to create a coherent and interconnected network.

The performance of this technology is based on the distribution of kinetic energy; When the projectile hits the surface of the mask, the network of pre-tear fibers are stretched and spread the concentrated energy of the bullet tip over a wide area of the composite surface.

The external coating layer is usually made of polyurethane or wear-resistant coatings, which not only protects the internal tissue against environmental erosion, but also reduces light reflection to zero and prevents light reflection during night operations.

Most of the produced examples of these masks have been able to obtain the NIJ Level IIIA ballistic protection standard approval. In ballistics science, this standard means full resilience against direct fire from projectiles fired from high-powered handguns, including 9mm Full Metal Jacket caliber and 44 Magnum caliber with a muzzle velocity of more than 400 meters per second.

This capability is considered a critical advantage for scenarios of clearing buildings, rapid penetration, and neutralizing urban terrorism; Because in these environments, attackers often use small arms or assault weapons at distances where shrapnel and stray bullets pose the greatest threat.

In addition, the mask has a function beyond stopping direct bullets. In penetration operations using explosives or impact grenades, the throwing of broken glass, concrete chips and hard parts can disable the eyes and facial tissues. The integrated structure of the mask acts as a complete defensive shield and blocks the path of any high-speed particles.

At the same time, the internal ergonomic layering is made of advanced shock-absorbing foams and polymer gels and prevents direct contact of the outer layer with the skin and absorbs most of the shock wave to minimize the risk of skull fracture.
