"Street Fighter" returns to the big screen for a new take on the popular fighting game video series that started in the 1980s in arcades and is popular to this day.
Paramount and Legendary's live-action film is set in the 90s and follows a global fighting tournament that brings together competitors from around the world. This list includes Ken Masters (Noah Centino) and his childhood friend and training partner Rio (Andrew Koji), who have appeared in every "Street Fighter" video game. There is a colorful cast of other characters such as Chun Li (Kalina Liang), M. Beason (David Desmalchian), Cami (Mel Jarnson), Vega (Orville Peck) and more. The cast also features several real-life martial arts fighters, stars, and WWE wrestlers, such as Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, and Oliver Richter as Zangief.
Kitao Sakurai, who is behind Beef, Dave and The Eric Andre Show, is directing the film, which was previously attached by Danny and Michael Filippo (Talk to Me, Bring Her Back). This is actually the third Street Fighter film, following the 1994 film Street: 209 The Legend of Chun Lee." 1994's Street Fighter starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Ming Na Wen as Chun Lee, Damian Chapa as Ken, Byron Mann as Ryu and Kylie Minogue as Cami. The Legend of Chun Lee was an infamous flop and starred Christian Crook. It featured Chun Lee as Neil McDonough as M. Beason, Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog and Black Eyed Peas. Taboo singer as Vega.
Check out the full cast of the new "Street Fighter" movie and how they compare to their video game counterparts below.
Along with Ryu, Ken has appeared in all of the original Street Fighter video games. In the film, he is a high-profile celebrity who tries to fight his way to stardom after his childhood friend and training partner Rio becomes a world champion. Ken is known for his Fireball Headoken, Flying Dragon Punch (aka Shuryuken), and Tornado Kick attack. After starring in films like To All the Boys I've Loved Before, Black Man and War, Noah Centineo plays Ken.
Like Ken, Ryu is the only other character to appear on the Street Fighter roster. He usually wears his classic white gi, red headband, and red gloves, and has the same Hadoken and Shuryoken moves as Ken. They are among the most popular characters in fighting games and have appeared in other titles such as "Super Smash Bros.", "Marvel vs. Capcom" and so on. Ryu is played by actor and martial artist Andrew Koji, who played Storm Shadow in "Snake Eyes" and starred in "Bullet Train" and "Warrior."
Chun-Li first appeared in "Street Fighter 2" and was one of the first female characters in any fighting game. He is known for his striking attacks (and very large thighs) and his iconic blue outfit. Chun Lee seeks revenge on M. Bison after his father's murder. Kalina Liang grew up and trained for this film after appearing in "Presence" and "Bad Genius".
Cami works for the evil M. Bison as one of his agents. She was introduced in Street Fighter II: The New Fighter and was the second female character to be added to the series after Chun Li. Her outfit is popular among fans for its green or blue hose, military hat, and long braided tail. She is played by Mel Jarnson, who also appeared in Mortal Kombat as Nitara.
M. Bison is a villain and often the final boss in the "Street Fighter" games. He is a megalomaniacal dictator who rules over the Shadaloo crime syndicate, with characters like Cammy, Vega, and Julie reporting to him. He grows stronger by absorbing psychic powers and often wears a red military uniform. David Dastmalchian plays the role of the villain after playing eccentric characters in the films "Suicide Squad", "The Dune" and "One Piece".
Dan Hibiki is a weak fighter who trained under Goken alongside Ryu and Ken. Dan in his Pink Jay later becomes a more respectable and strong fighter, but his moves are animated in a comedic video game way. He is played by comedian Andrew Schulz, who began appearing in more films after gaining fame with his stand-up act.
Akuma is one of the most powerful villains in Street Fighter and the younger brother of Goten, Ryu and Ken's mentor. He is often the final boss in many games and uses dark energy to power his hadokens. WWE star Roman Reigns plays the role of Akuma in this movie.
Guile is a US Air Force pilot seeking revenge on M. Bison. He wears a military uniform and has an American flag tattoo, but is best known for his quirky blonde hairdo. WWE star Cody Rhodes stars as him in his biggest film role to date.
Zangiev is a great Soviet wrestler known for his grappling moves, red shorts, X-shaped scars and hairy chest. He is played by bodybuilder Olivier Richters, who stands at 7:2 and has starred in Reacher, Black Widow, Indiana Jones and the Dialer, and the video game movie Mersland.
Vega is a Spanish fighter who uses a mask and razor claws in all his appearances. He uses a combination of Japanese ninjutsu and Spanish bullfighting in his fights. He is played by country singer Orville Peck, who is making his film debut and is also almost always seen wearing a mask in his performances.
Blanca is a green-skinned, orange-haired monster who can generate electricity and launch herself as a super-fast ball, her signature move. He is an animal warrior controlled by M. Bison and played by Jason Momoa after appearing in films such as Aquaman, The Dune, Supergirl and Minecraft.
Balrog is a boxer who enters a fighting tournament and is played by rapper, actor and business mogul Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson. He wears his blue boxing uniform, but is best known for his unique hairstyle that paid homage to boxer Mike Tyson.
Dhalsim is an Indian stretching yogi and fighter who can contract his limbs.
Goken is Ryu and Ken's mentor who is later murdered by his evil brother Akuma. His role is played by Don Lee, who has acted in movies like "Train to Busan", "Everlasting" and many others and has a background in martial arts.
E. Honda is a sumo wrestler played by Hiroki Goto, an actor and professional wrestler making his American feature film debut.
Julie is one of M. Beason's agents, played by actress and martial artist Raina Vallandingham ("Cobra Kai," "The Citadel").
Don Sauvage is a voiced, non-playable character recently introduced in Street Fighter 5. He is played by comedian Eric Andre.
Joe is a non-playable background character who appeared in the first Street Fighter game. He is played by Alexander Volkanovsky, an MMA fighter and two-time UFC champion.
