Kid Rock takes a look at the White House dinner with Trump
Singer Kid Rock joins the "Outnumbered" panel to reflect on his dinner with President Donald Trump at the White House. He also talks about his personal faith journey.
President Donald Trump hosted a dinner Thursday night with singer Kid Rock, HBO host Bill Maher and ESPN commentator Stephen E. Smith, hosted.
The singer said the four men agreed on at least one point: "Socialism and communism have no place in our government."
Kid Rock wore a very patriotic outfit when he met President Trump at the White House in April. (white house)
It's not entirely clear why Trump brought that particular group together for dinner. However, Rock said he and Maher recently joined Trump for a separate meal that also included UFC president Dana White.
Apparently Smith was working as a sports agent this time.
Bill Maher reveals dinner with Trump again, says it was 'really nice' via text
To the group's credit, there was at least some political diversity on the table. Kid Rock is an ardent Trump fan. Maher is a liberal who is increasingly critical of both parties and the progressive left. Smith is, well, politically inconsistent.
We suspect that Smith was playing a proud Thursday night moderate, as he often appears on conservative radio and television.
That version of Smith could be quite different from the version that appears on SiriusXM and his YouTube channel, where he is much more sensitive to the concerns of liberals and what he often calls the black community.
Smith says he will be speaking on his podcast Friday night.
Our prediction: He downplays the unethical nature of the gathering, insists that attending dinner with Trump does not mean he supports him, and claims he pressed the president on racial issues. Then the next time a conservative interviews him, he offers a different narrative.
Maher, meanwhile, is probably the most likely member of the group to give a straight account of what really happened. We have no doubt that the night was as much fun as Kid Rock suggests.
However, the dinner is notable for another reason. Trump is one of the few major politicians in 2026 who regularly sits down with people who openly disagree with him. Few political commentators have been more critical of Trump than Maher, including after the two dined together for the first time last year.
Either way, a dinner with Trump, Kid Rock, Maher and Smith could be good fodder for this weekend's Saturday Night Live.
Of course, as long as they don't mention anything about women in the gym
