Observer: European Leaders' Silence on Israeli Crimes in Gaza Continues
Ahead of the EU leaders' summit, The Observer criticized the draft EU statement on settler violence in the West Bank. It wrote that the published text makes no mention of sanctions on extremist settlers or a ban on imports of settlement products.
On the eve of the European Union summit, the Observer newspaper criticized the draft statement of the union on the violence of the settlers in the West Bank and wrote that in the published text, there was no mention of sanctioning the extremist settlers or preventing the import of settlement products.
Ambassador Arjan-International Group: The Observer newspaper wrote: In their upcoming meeting, the leaders of the European Union will raise empty criticisms against the settlers in the West Bank, and in clear contradiction to the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, they will remain silent against the Israeli genocide (regime) in Gaza.
According to a copy of the draft statement of the summit of the European Union leaders on Thursday, October 15 (23 Mehr), which has been seen by Abzor: Brussels "condemns the continuation and increase of settler violence against Palestinian civilians and demands accountability."
EU leaders aim to warn of the legal, economic and credit consequences of Israeli companies participating in the construction of a settlement in the E1 area in the West Bank.
The E1 area is located in the east of Jerusalem (occupied Jerusalem) and on the west bank of the Jordan River, and the Zionist settlement plans in it have faced international opposition. Europe emphasizes that the construction of settlements in this area by dividing it into two parts will destroy the solution of the formation of two Palestinian and Zionist states.
This newspaper wrote: Considering the support of the Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Janša to his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu and his opposition to such positions in the message published on the X channel last August, it should be seen whether he will sign this statement or not. But even if the Slovenian Prime Minister agrees, the European Union still gives immunity to the settlers because this statement does not mention the prevention of the importation of the settlers or even the embargo of the extremist settlers.
Claudio Francavilla of Human Rights Watch said: "The European Union continues to trade with illegal settlements while condemning them and financing the occupation and abuses it claims to oppose." What is the logic of this?
Abzor wrote that since the ceasefire in Gaza in October 2025, the Israeli regime has martyred about 1,450 residents of this area.
Since 2023, more than 74,000 Palestinians have been martyred and 1,800,000 others have been displaced in Gaza, but EU leaders refuse to condemn this regime.
This behavior of the European Union, the prime ministers and presidents of the 27 member states of the European Union, is in front of the Nobel Peace Prize Committee and the Presidency of the European Union Commission, which blamed Israel for the genocide in Gaza. The committee also cooperates with the International Criminal Court, which convicted Netanyahu of war crimes.
H. A. Hellyer, a member of the Royal United Services think tank in London, said in this context: If the European Union was serious about its obligations to international law and its claimed values and policies, it would have taken more measures in the field of Israel sanctions.
Observer wrote: Demonstrations of solidarity with the Palestinians in Berlin, London, Rome and Warsaw on Saturday showed that ordinary people in Europe want their elected politicians to act against Israel and in support of Palestine.
Meanwhile, the Pew Center survey showed that 83% of Germans and 88% of Italians now oppose Netanyahu.
The Observer wrote: In the draft statement of the European Union summit, the Palestinian elections are supported, but the verbal support of this union is buried much faster than such statements are updated.
Palestinian officials warned France on Friday that Palestinian elections should be postponed until at least late 2027 due to the "security and economic conditions" created by Israel in the West Bank.
At the same time, the European Union summit will be held two weeks before the Israeli elections, and the hollow words of the European leaders could be tactical.
Abzor also evaluated the passivity of Europe caused by the internal politics of Germany and Italy and a combination of "guilt caused by the Second World War", "roaring populism of the extreme right" and "transatlantic political realism" in these countries and wrote, until Berlin and Rome are not aligned with other EU countries, Europe's silence will fuel the illusion of Israeli extremists to feel that they are on the right side.
South African judge and lawyer Navi Pillay, who won the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize this year, said in his first reaction after receiving the award, referring to his last activity, "The last thing I did was to deliver a report that describes what is happening in Gaza as genocide."
Before this, he was the head of a UN investigation committee, which concluded in its report that the Zionist regime committed genocide in the Gaza Strip.
The meeting of the UN Security Council on Palestine was accompanied by the emphasis of Russia and China on stopping Israeli settlements in the West Bank and the differences of opinion of the members.
The Persian Gulf Cooperation Council welcomed the joint statement of several European countries for a commercial embargo on the goods of the Zionist settlements in the West Bank and against the expansion of settlements.
The European Union, warning about the consequences of the E1 settlement project, asked the Israeli cabinet to stop this project and other settlement projects in the West Bank.
