Third round of talks between the government and opposition in Venezuela begins

Agenda centers on reaching agreement on political rights and civil guarantees

The agenda of the third round is centered around an agreement on political rights and civil guarantees.

The previous round, in August and September, focused on debating the reorganization of government institutions, including judicial reform, renewing the Supreme Court and the National Electoral Council, lifting restrictions on websites and unblocking gold at the Bank of England.

The opposition delegation to the negotiations is led by Dinora Figueroa, leader of a parliamentary faction in 2015. On January 5, 2023, the opposition parliament, which had continued to operate in parallel with the official parliament abroad, elected Figueira as its president to succeed Juan Guaidó.
