Key points of Tamim Al-Thani's speech in Qatar Parliament
In his annual speech in the Qatari Parliament, the Emir of Qatar took a position on various issues, including the Strait of Hormuz and the decrease in the country's revenues due to the regional crisis.
According to Ambassador Arjan, quoted by al-Quds al-Arabi, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, in his annual speech before the Council of Qatar while unveiling these projects, said that Qatar has so far been able to manage the consequences of the regional crisis and reduce public costs, without affecting basic services or development priorities.
Referring to the economic situation of his country, the Emir of Qatar stated that Qatar's economy faced a regional crisis, which had a strong foundation. According to him, the country's economy recorded a real growth of 2.9% in 2025, and the inflation rate remained at the level of half a percent.
Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani emphasized that Qatar owns about one-fifth of the world's liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade, therefore, any changes or disruptions that quickly affect this country will be reflected in the markets and among consumers around the world. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the direct damage caused to some energy facilities in the industrial city of Ras Lafan have disrupted an important part of this country's exports. It is natural that this crisis has a negative impact on public finances, as total revenues have decreased by 42% in the first half of the year.
He also announced that the North gas field development plan is progressing according to the plans set to increase Qatar's liquefied natural gas production capacity. According to him, the "Golden Pass" project in America has made significant progress and the international investments and partnerships of "Qatar Energy" company are expanding.

He also noted that more than 360 new digital projects have been developed and the project to create a central database has entered the stage of operational integration.
In the field of food security, the Emir of Qatar announced that support for domestic agricultural production continues and Qatar emphasizes strengthening its capabilities in this field.
Referring to the recent developments in the region, he said that Qatar and the countries of the region have faced exceptional events that have once again shown the strength of the country's government institutions.
He explained that Qatar's strategy during the crisis was based on four pillars. The first one was the resolute defense of the homeland without going to war and emphasized that adherence to dialogue and peaceful solutions does not mean compromising the defense of the country and its sovereignty.
Emir of Qatar added that the second pillar is maintaining services, supply chains and continuing economic activity. The third pillar focuses on participating in ceasefire efforts and the reopening of waterways, while the fourth pillar is encouraging negotiations to achieve peaceful solutions to the ongoing conflict.
He confirmed that the policies adopted by Qatar before the crisis have helped it to endure its consequences until now and expressed confidence that the country will emerge from the crisis, more resilient and equipped to adapt to global changes.
He emphasized that the security of the region and the world are connected to each other and instability in any part of the world cannot be separated from the developments in other regions.
Pointing to his country's policy towards the developments in the region, the Emir of Qatar stated that Doha has adhered to the decisive defense of the country, but has avoided being dragged into war.
Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani added: Qatar's adherence to dialogue and peaceful solutions does not mean negligence in the defense of the country.
Referring to Qatar's efforts to reduce tension in the region, he announced that this country participated in the efforts to establish a ceasefire and reopen water crossings.
The Emir of Qatar also emphasized the need for negotiations to achieve peaceful solutions to conflicts in the region.
Referring to the economic consequences of the developments in the region, he also said that the government of Qatar has decided not to reduce basic services and not change development priorities in order to maintain the country's economic momentum, and the development plans of the northern gas field continue according to the plans set to increase the production of liquid natural gas.
