Anbernic has shared a new video of its upcoming dual-screen handheld that it announced last week, showing the device playing 3DS, Xbox, and PS3 games through emulation. While competitors like Ayaneo have been making dual-screen handsets for a few years now, Anbernic has recently introduced its own dual-screen devices, including the RG DS and RG DS Plus. These handhelds are designed as modern replacements for the Nintendo DS, but the new RG DDS, which stands for "Dream Dual Screen," has a faster processor and displays with optimized aspect ratios to replace the Nintendo 3DS — though Anbernic doesn't attempt to recreate the glasses-free 3D effect.

Full performance details are still unclear, and Anbernic has yet to reveal pricing for the RG DDS or how aggressively it will compete with devices like the Ayaneo Pocket DS, which is already launching. At $579, both the Anbernic RG DS and DS Plus start at less than $100.

What we do know is that the RG DDS has a 4.7-inch 1200x720 resolution screen and a 4-inch 960x720 resolution screen on the bottom, matching the aspect ratio the 3DS used. These displays also have three times the resolution of the 3DS screen, allowing simulated games to be easily scaled up. The RG DDS is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon G2 Gen 2 chipset with a 6000mAh rechargeable battery and will include built-in vibration feedback and an expandable stylus inside.

The design of the RG DDS looks almost identical to the 3DS, although you'll find an extra analog thumbstick on the bottom right for playing 3D games that require a pair of them. Also, the small button in the upper right corner of the Nintendo New 3DS touch screen moves forward. But instead of acting as a camera controller, the RG DDS uses the button as a shortcut to access yet-to-be-disclosed AI features.
