Mass suspension of Iranians on X: What is the accusation of foreign interference?
X announced the suspension of more than 13,000 accounts over allegations of participating in possible foreign interference operations.
The company's global government affairs team claimed in a post on X that it had suspended more than 13,000 accounts in connection with what it called "three possible foreign influence operations" attributed to Iran, Russia and China. According to X's claim, these networks used fake accounts to publish and promote political content and targeted candidates and public figures from different political spectrums.
"Whether we're dealing with spam networks or entities involved in hacking operations, we actively seek to identify and stop coordinated and unethical behavior that undermines the health and credibility of our platform," the company said. The social network, which has not provided any evidence for its claims, did not specify how many of these accounts were suspended in connection with Iran and did not provide further details about the alleged operations attributed to Iran.
