The entertainment industry platform lets professional users add their connections and publicly endorse each other's work.

IMDb is adding features to make it the professional social network for the entertainment industry.

The Amazon-owned platform is best known for maintaining details about film and television productions, from on-screen talent to producers, directors, writers and crew.

Now, "at a time when changes in production and rapid technological changes are reshaping the way the entertainment industry operates," the platform is leveraging another professional platform: LinkedIn, which encourages professional users to connect and help find the next opportunity.

IMDb on Wednesday launched Connections, a new professional network for professional users to connect with people they've worked with, met at industry events or want to connect with. It also launched "endorsements" that allow users who are connected to each other to write professional recommendations for their colleagues.

Both features require approval from both users involved and will be available to all IMDbPro members who have claimed their name page. IMDbPro is currently built around an industry database, providing information on advertisers, executives and other decision makers, as well as services for actors and other creatives looking to break into the entertainment business.

The new features create more of a traditional professional social network based on who you work with and connect with, with the ultimate goal of helping professionals in this space get started.
