Jimmy Kimmel reacts to new White House press secretary Cathy Zacharias' disastrous first day on the job.
Jimmy Kimmel began Tuesday evening's monologue with a recap of Donald Trump's new White House press secretary, Katie Zacharias, who held her first press conference that morning.
"You know, Trump has been president for a long time," Kimmel explained. "I think it's been about 50 or 60 years? And to keep her awake and interested, every six months they bring in a new blonde fawn doll to add to the rotation."
Even though Zacharias is a fawn and blonde conspiracy theorist, Kimmel said, “Things didn't start out so well for Malibu Katie today. "His first briefing was short. It only lasted 14 minutes, but even in that short time he did exactly what he was brought in to do, which was a whole tube of lip gloss all over the president's back," he said.
For one, Zacharias opened the briefing by telling reporters he wanted to work for Trump "for a long time."
"She wanted to work for him for a long time," Kimmel reiterated. "And that's really all it takes nowadays. All it takes is dressing like you're going to announce Delta Air Lines before you get on the plane."
Kimmel then played another clip of Zachariah reading slowly from his notes. "His reading is good for an 11-year-old!" Just kidding, he hired a fourth grader as his press secretary.
He noted that Zacharias is "a real piece of work" who "calls him a pedophile social media pedophile and weighs in on Pizzagate." "So I'm sure he will immediately demand that everyone named in the Trump and Epstein cases be punished to the fullest extent of the law."
Kimmel also showed several clips of Zacharias speaking for various right-wing outlets, including the claim that no one sees Odyssey as a "woke movie."
Kimmel responded, “Well, that film Awake made $1.8 billion. "So we have a smart one here."
All in all, "Kathy's first trip was, as her boss might say, a complete disaster." Still, I'm impressed — do you know how hard it is to become Trump's worst press secretary so quickly?
To add to the embarrassment, after the briefing, Zakaria, who is said to be a lawyer, responded to reporters' questions about where he took the bar exam with the unhelpful reply, "I moved to China."
Asked for clarification, the Trump administration refused to specify when and where Zakaria passed the bar exam.
"I feel like the only tape he went through was from Dry Bar," quipped Kimmel.
