Khazar or Caspian? Why the Name of This Body of Water Has Made News Again
The naming of Iran's northern sea has once again become a topic of debate, this time involving television maps. But what happened to bring a geographic name back into focus?
The issue of naming the North Sea of Iran has once again become a topic of the day and this time it has come up on television maps. But what happened when a geographic title came back into focus?
Sefir Arjan-Social Group: Khabar news network's use of the name Caspian for the Caspian Sea in weather maps has attracted the attention of users and media in recent days.
This happened after the words of Ahmad Kazemi, an expert on political issues, in the program "War Base" of the Eghov network.
In this program, citing Arthur Koestler's book titled "Khazaran", Kazemi said: In this book, the author claimed that the ancestors of the Ashkenazi Jews, who were the founders of Israel, are the same Khazarian Jews. Today, Israel, in order to be present in the region and to prove that this was a Jewish empire, in cooperation with some of these countries on the coast of the Caspian Sea, especially the Republic of Azerbaijan, is setting this issue.
He further said: "The world mocks Iranians for using the name Caspian." In the following, the weather department of the television used the title "Caspian Sea" instead of the Caspian Sea; An issue that has drawn attention to the international name and historical background of this blue area.
Examining the comments about the name of this historical lake shows that the issue of officially using a name for it is not a new issue; But the television's reaction to this is a new thing. Previously, in 1403, a campaign was launched on the campaign site to request the renaming of the Caspian Sea to the original Iranian name of Caspian.
Also, in 2013, the specialized committee for naming and unification of geographical names of Iran announced the use of the name "Caspian" inside the country and "Caspian" in foreign texts and international documents; An approach that was criticized and debated by some researchers and cultural activists in the following years.
In 2006, the Majlis Research Center considered the selection of the Caspian name inappropriate for the North Sea of Iran and demanded a reconsideration of this matter.
On the sidelines of the Summit of the Commonwealth of Nations and the Caspian Environmental Summit, Masoud Bizikian and Sardar Berdimohamadov discussed the development of bilateral relations and the strengthening of regional cooperation.
Emphasizing the necessity of strengthening the cohesion and cooperation between the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS group, the president stated: The purpose of forming these summits is to achieve common executive frameworks in the financial, economic, commercial, security and political fields, and the influence of the decisions of these organizations on the internal policies of the United States can weaken their strength and cohesion.
The President called Iran's presence for the first time and as the first country invited as a special guest of the Commonwealth of Independent States Summit a valuable opportunity to strengthen existing ties and open a new chapter of cooperation with the countries of this group and said: Iran considers itself a natural part of the interconnected geography of the region, which is rooted in history, culture, civilization and people's ties.
