According to ICT News; On October 12 and 13, 2026 (October 20 and 21, 1405), Xiaomi introduced a new version of Redmi Note 17 Pro with new colors and memory configurations in the Chinese market. This model comes without any upgrade in the processor, camera or battery, and its changes are limited only to the color scheme and memory combination.

Buyers can get the Redmi Note 17 Pro in Sand Orange, Green and Black colors. White, sky blue and nebula purple colors are out of production. High memory versions are also left out and the new model is only available with 256.6, 128.8 and 256.8 GB configurations. Versions 8/512 and 12/256 have been deleted.

The base model is priced at 1,599 yuan (about $239) and the 8.256GB model is priced at 1,699 yuan (about $254). In the initial sale, a 200 yuan discount will be applied and the price will be reduced to 1,399 yuan.

The technical specifications of this model in the Chinese market include a 6.83-inch 1.5K OLED display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. The Snapdragon 6s Gen 4 chip provides the processing power of the device and a 9,000 mAh battery with 67W wired charging and 22.5W reverse charging provides its energy. The main camera of 50 megapixels with a depth sensor of 2 megapixels and a selfie camera of 8 megapixels are also considered for this phone. This device has received IP66, IP68, IP69 and IP69K certifications for water and dust resistance.

Notably, the Chinese version uses a 9,000 mAh battery with silicon-carbon technology, while the international version, which launched around August with a base price of $400, uses an 8,340 mAh battery. This difference is probably due to differences in shipping standards and battery certifications in different markets.

The original version of Redmi Note 17 Pro has been removed from official Chinese channels since last week and replaced by a new version.

The introduction of a new version of the Redmi Note 17 Pro with a more limited color scheme and lower memory configurations represents an important strategic shift in Xiaomi's approach. Previously, the company sought to appeal to a wide range of tastes and budgets by offering a wide variety of colors and configurations. But now it has taken a more conservative approach as diversity has declined.

The removal of high-end versions of memory and the addition of the 256/6 GB version is interpreted as a response to the global crisis of memory shortage and the increase in the price of memory chips. With this approach, Xiaomi allocates limited memory resources to the best-selling models and refrains from producing versions that have a lower profit margin.

However, these changes can be limiting for some users. The removal of the 512/8GB version removes the option for professional users and those who need more storage space. Also, removing white, blue and purple colors reduces the variety of tastes.

All in all, the new Redmi Note 17 Pro is a mid-range product with acceptable specifications and a competitive price, but its limited variety shows that Xiaomi is focusing on optimizing resources and reducing costs in the current market conditions.
