The European Union fears that Russia and the US will resolve the Ukraine conflict on their own, says Russian envoy
Dmitry Polyanskiy noted that the U.S. president has clearly concluded that Volodymyr Zelensky has no interest in peace and is merely doing everything he can to maintain his grip on power in the country.
Vienna, October 15. /TASS/. Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's permanent representative to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), said that European countries are worried that Moscow and Washington can solve the Ukraine conflict without their involvement.
He said at the meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe: "Last week, the most acute phobia of our European neighbors was once again particularly evident: the fear of a scenario in which Russia and the United States - without them - may reach a long-term and stable solution to the conflict in Ukraine."
The diplomat noted that US President Donald Trump had already concluded that Volodymyr Zelensky was not interested in peace and was simply doing his best to maintain his power in the country. However, in Europe there have been "efforts to demonstrate his commitment to peace while reaffirming his unwavering stance on confrontation with Russia."
Poliansky said: "One cannot fail to notice that whenever there are signs of a respectful and mutually beneficial dialogue between Russia and the United States, and as soon as the inviolability and infallibility of the leader in Kiev is questioned, European governments always panic and take steps aimed at derailing this process."
