Martha Plimpton has joined the list of stars speaking out about Shane Gillis' poorly received opening monologue on Saturday Night Live.
"There's this guy Shane Gillis who I've never heard of who said some really stupid stuff on 'SNL' live on Saturday," the "Goonies" star said in a video posted to Instagram. "It's like stupid bullshit. He deserves to beat his mother." Plympton also talked about watching a documentary about Laure Michaels, who is the creator and executive producer of the comedy show. He said: "There was a scene that happened in Lauren's office where, between the rehearsal tape recording and the live show, a bunch of people gather in Lauren's office to decide what gets cut and what goes on. There were all these white men in the room making the decisions. All white men. And maybe even all straight white men.” “I think Lauren needs a few more women in that room to make a decision. isn't it? Yeah, I think so." She continued to shout out her love for "SNL" cast member Kenan Thompson, who commented on the video. "Shane who?" read her caption, popularized by Variety
Gillies drew ire almost immediately after taking the stage Saturday night for her misogynistic opening monologue. Most of the criticism that has been directed at him is the result of a joke about women's sportswear. I haven't been to the gym in ages, I didn't know women only dress like whores now? he said "Look, I'm sorry, there's no other way to describe [it]. You've seen it? I've seen it. You've seen the panties? They're neon, like fake bait [shorts], and the wrinkles go around the cheeks and they all come together in the hole. And don't let me look!
Dan Levy shared an Instagram loop on Sunday reacting to the monologue in disbelief. He said: "Women wearing short shorts to the gym doesn't make them whores. That makes men call them misogynists.” “There's a difference. By the way, I've seen more men's nipples in the gym than women flaunting their bodies."
